September wrap-up and some snippets of life in between. My favourite books were Land and Cleo Dang Would Rather Be Dead. I also liked Goodbye, Vitamin. 💭QOTD: I’ve been finding it more and more challenging to read (been on a slump). What books have gotten you out of a slump?📖

Sketching with @usktoronto in East Chinatown. I love how stimulating this intersection is. There’s so much happening, and so many people have something to say. We overheard a local tell a visiting sketcher that Toronto is too ugly and he should go to Montréal. Toronto IS ugly until you start studying it. I see the beauty in the layers of buildings, people, and everyday life happening. Toronto reveals itself when I take the time to look. Fineliner, watercolour, markers for the scene, and acrylic paint markers for the graffiti. 💙 @usktoronto @urbansketchers @tpl.teens @tpl.foundation @torontolibrary #uskoctoberprompts2026

Book Trailer Tuesdays have been a thing I’ve done the last few years in the Library to introduce students to more books because I don’t see them everyday. Sometimes it hits and students request these books, sometimes they don’t, but there’s never any pressure for them to check them out. I always post books we have IN our school library that aren’t already checked out. Bonus: If your homeroom teachers need a minute to get organized on Tuesdays they have a quick 5-10 minutes with this post! Every Tuesday I post a link to the trailer and a link to the SORA/OverDrive samples so students get a chance to get a little taste of the book. My board has partnered with SORA this year and it allows students to immediately check our ebooks or e-audiobooks even without a TPL card. With a TPL card they can check out the physical book from their local TPL using the link. And of course we have a copy in our school library! *I’m not personally being paid by or partnered with SORA, just sharing which books they have on the account with their logo* They get a visual snapshot of the book with the trailer, and can read a sample of the book with the links to SORA/OverDrive . So if the trailer interested them they can dig a little deeper into the book. This isn’t being assessed. I never demand that they do this, but it’s always there. No pressure, no worries, just consistency and exposure. With around 43 Tuesdays in the school year they get exposed to 43 titles of books they may or may not enjoy reading. That’s a win for me! Scroll to see the first three book I shared with my classes this year ➡️ This graphic novel is always a hit with our students, a middle schoolers story about being the new kid at school. It’s a great one to kick off Book Trailer Tuesdays. This novel is a the first in a popular series at my school that will hook your students right away. So if they love this one there’s plenty more to read! Obviously I posted this one for our Grade 8s. I immediately wanted something to catch their attention and with the upcoming movie release I know some of them may want to read this beforehand. I was already stopped in the hallways by a student who told me they jus
