The good folks accepted our proposal to participate on this year's Design Week South Africa. I am excited for this one as it will help me get @smtks_studios to the world one step at a time.

@trackside_studios is helping us put together the activation as it entails retail & a live screen printing for our community to learn more about how printing works and the quality required. Live Music will also be available and music curation from a good friend of mine Dj Weld Defect from @vinylvine_sa

A special thank you to @lastnamestartswithq for opening the door to house this experience

As you may have picked it up, this is your invite. Come Say Hi and print something!

We are excited to participate in this year’s Design Week SA! This opportunity allows us to share our story and the inspirations behind our creative journey, as we continue to tell South African narratives.

Our aim for 2026 is to connect with as many people as possible through activations, pop-ups, and events.
Additionally, we will host Trackside Studios, where our audience can enjoy a live screen printing and heat press workshop. Participants will have the chance to create unique custom SMTKS. STUDIOS T-shirts and shop from our Season 4 capsule for 2026.

No RSVP’s No Ticket!
Just bring good vibes as access.

I live to hear it live

Coming back back to rehearsal has made me remember how much hard work we put into this music ting. In as much as it brings us joy and fulfilment the process ain’t always that easy. Beyonce once said a lot of ppl don’t love to rehearse cause you gotta get in here and be humble. You gotta be willing to look awkward and you gotta study. Be a student.

There’s a lot we don’t show, the singing off key, the missed progression, the wrong notes being played, the do overs, however we keep at it cause not only do we love what we do but we respect it.

I’ll see yall at the commune This Friday for Soundcheckn 💕

URBAN SOUNDSCAPES

Sunday, 30 August | Soweto Gallary (no typo) x Trackside Studios

Some Sundays deserve more than errands and routines. They deserve good people, honest conversation and music that lingers long after the last note.

Urban Soundscapes invites you into an intimate afternoon where Jazz meets Soul, broken beats dance with Hip-Hop, and improvisation becomes a language of its own. Hosted at the Soweto Gallary in Orlando West and a stone’s throw from the Hector Pietersen Memorial

Museum , and in partnership with Trackside Studios, this special gathering welcomes one of Soweto's most exciting live ensembles, Bantu Social.

Born in the heart of Gauteng around 2016 under the direction of drummer and creative visionary Molefi "Levos" Phuroe, Bantu Social has become synonymous with fearless musical exploration. Their performances move effortlessly between jazz, neo-soul, lounge and broken beat, creating rich sonic landscapes that are both deeply rooted and constantly evolving.

Having shared stages from Jazz on the Lawn and The Great Escape Festival to Design Indaba, International Jazz Day and Namibia's Festival Operation Phenduka, the collective continues to carve out a sound that is unmistakably their own as they prepare for the release of their debut EP.

Leading the journey is the captivating Mela Genre , whose voice shifts effortlessly between tenderness and power. Alongside her, Thabo Morajane paints elegant harmonic textures on piano, Sandile Mbatha anchors every groove with inventive bass lines, while Levos drives the music with hypnotic rhythms that are equal parts precision and surprise.

Whether you're a devoted jazz listener, a crate-digging beat enthusiast or simply searching for a beautiful way to spend a Sunday, Urban Soundscapes offers a space to slow down, connect and lose yourself in music made with intention.

Come early. Find your corner. Share a drink. Stay for the conversations between the notes.
