TEXAS!

Cabaret is the beginning of my collegiate career and what I would call my professional theatrical career. This show has truly meant the absolute world to me and been a privilege to be a part of. Being a freshman casted in such an already small cast but being chosen out of all of the amazingly other talented people out there is such a blessing. And I will be forever proud to have played Texas!

Not only was I able to perform in this amazing production but I was given the ability to be a part of the set building process. As a tech major this is truly what enthralled me about being a part of this production and this College. It has given me such an amazing beginning to what I hope will be a successful career. And I can truly say my blood sweat and tears - And numerous rolled ankles :) - went into the magic of this musical.

Throwback... 2010... I was looking for a backpack for the quintet tour in Romania and wasn't finding the one that would hold/organize what I was wanting along. I wondered what it would take to make one out of leather, so I stopped by my hometown shoe repair guy (Slayton Shoe Repair) to ask about stitching leather and he sold me one of his old machines. I was hooked! Or suckered...

This dog was heavy once I loaded it up, but man it felt good! Fit right to my back, wide, adjustable straps over the shoulder, it even expanded taller when the load demanded. It had a nice smell, too. I probably spent 60 hours just thinking it through. I used that backpack everyday for years, and many tours.

That first bag taught me how much I needed to think before cutting, and to account for material folds when measuring, and that rivets don't come out easily, and that trimming is easier than adding, and that seem reduction improves durability, and that solid brass patinas so well, and that...
Big thanks to @martymcalpine for bringing his camera on that trip.

The Misters circa 2010. Fun year in LBK. Then everyone moved to Carolina and left me all alone.

I don’t talk much about my early childhood because it was full of dysfunction, divorce, drug and alcohol abuse, custody battles, and a lot of things most children should never experience. It got better over the years but at a young age, I remember feeling jealous of my friends who only had one home/ one bed/ one routine, and wishing I had a family like they did, or the ones I saw on tv.
.
When my dad remarried I got 2 awesome step siblings and an amazing stepparent who loved me in all the ways I had wished for, and more of the normalcy that I craved. My blended family was still different than most peoples but I learned with time and maturity that family didn’t have to mean people who shared your same blood. Family could be anyone who loved you for who you were and made you feel safe and happy. Mine finally did.
.
Then I met and married my husband, and inherited the most amazing in-law family a girl like me could have asked for. It was the ultimate reminder to me that family extends beyond genetics as these people welcomed me and loved me from day 1 as if I was always one of theirs. Most people complain about their in-law’s and I’m over here saying to myself “thank you Universe for giving me people like this to spend my life with.”
.
This weekend we went up to Oklahoma to celebrate my father in law’s birthday with all of the extended family and I was once again reminded of how amazing it is to be included and loved by these people. I may not have been born into a family like theirs, but they include and love me as if I was and that’s a gift I’ll never take for granted. I don’t share all their childhood memories and stories but we make new adult era memories every time we are together that I get to be included in. I know this weekend added many more to the mix and my heart is happy that I get to call these people MY family. #familyislove
