World Basketball Day 🌍🏀

This court was almost erased.

The Fort Lauderdale Beach basketball courts…a place where the ocean meets asphalt, where locals and travelers, Black, Brown, and White, all come together through the language of basketball…were nearly replaced in the name of “upscale” development.

A community said no.

These courts matter. They’ve always mattered.

Long before luxury hotels and pickleball pitches, this space carried real social weight, opening access during a segregated era, becoming a rare place of unity on a divided shoreline.

Basketball didn’t just live here…it welcomed people here.

And today, the court stays. 
Because the people showed up. Because culture fought back. Because basketball belongs to everyone.

All this pressure gave us a breakthrough with government officials finally agreeing to leave the basketball courts where they are. However, amending the original agreement and getting this all locked in writing is the final step, and we’ve seen government officials backtrack over and over, so all the work isn’t quite done just yet.

Massive love and respect to @fllbeachballers the real leaders behind saving these courts. Proud to have documented and amplified this fight alongside them. Huge shoutouts to @rp4454_ @danacoronato @_rob_inhood @willcandis and so many others who were boots on the ground in this fight too!

On World Basketball Day, we celebrate more than the game. 
We celebrate community wins. We celebrate public space. We celebrate basketball as a unifier.

Wow! The Women in Film South FL Branch event held at Ask Media Productions in Delray Beach presented by Palm Beach County Film and Television Commission was so intimate and special. In this room were women who had to kick and scream to be where they are today. Our future filmmakers who attended you could see they were inspired, and needed reassurance, the confidence to carry on and be unstoppable, show them the way and rise them up- we listened- together we cried, we laughed, we talked, we danced, we came together for each other. @wiftflorida @pbcfilmandtv @askmediaproductions @allison9948 @counterculturecinemas 🎞️

When I say this show saved my life, I don’t mean it lightly. When my life came crashing down last summer, this project and it’s people became my saving grace. Years after leaving the industry I was back and happier than ever to be involved in helping create someone’s vision come to life! Watching these awesome and badass creatives @efoye @tracypowell_ @trini__tea do their magic inspired me to learn more and with the help of TiffReis, @gabbymoncada_ and @stepharama I was given that opportunity.
