While is SC for family vacation I made it to @jocasseevalleybrewing in Salem, SC. This is a family owned and operated brewery. It’s small and quaint, but immediately I felt right at home. The owners are the band Conservation Theory. After traveling around performing at many breweries they decided to open one of their own. At the moment all their recipes are brewed @thomascreekbeer in Greenville, but there are plans to get brewing on site. They have also started opening in the mornings as a coffee shop. Music is what this brewery is centered around. They have a huge outdoor stage where on Fridays and Saturdays they have concerts. They also host open mic nights and jam nights. The outdoor area also has a gathering place around their fireplace and a cornhole area. When I was there sadly they didn’t have any of their beer on tap, but some are the works at Thomas Creek. They did have lots of other local brews so I went with Rustic Sunday, a Farmhouse Saison from @bfsbeer out of Greenville and walked the grounds. I wish I could have tried one of their brews, but there is always next time. I enjoyed my time talking with the woman owner and hearing about the brewery. She says they even make bread with some of their beer. This isn’t a huge brewery, but it’s a nice place to hang, listen to music, relax and have a beer.

My first stop on my South Carolina trip was @doublestampbrewery This is a 90’s themed brewery as you can see by the front entrance. Double Stamp Brewery was part of the first phase of Holland Park on Lauren’s Road along with @hometeambbqgvl both broke ground in October of 2020. Since then they had added @flyingrabbitadventures an aerial adventure park that looks really fun! I’d love this adventure! While I was there I had to get a flight and then Barley and I checked out their roof top! Grizzly Adam’s’ Beard is one of their most popular brews. It’s a NEIPA sitting at 7.5% abv brewed with Amarillo, Sitiva and Zamba hops. I get pineapple, citrus and mango on the nose along with hops. It is juicy and citrusy throughout the sip. The pineapple and mango are present and this is a refreshing one. Golfball Wacker Guy is a Kellerbier that they Americanized with Centennial hops. And the name rings true, this would be a great beer for the golf course! It has floral and citrus notes on the sniff. The drink is light and easy with floral and citrus coming through along with some cereal. It does have a hop kick on the finish and as it warms pine starts to present itself. Little Palce Called “”Aasspen” their Vienna Lager was also great and the full pour of Czech Yo Head, a Dark Czech Lager did not disappoint. 5 On It, a West Coast IPA fell short for me, which is strange because I usually really like a West Coast. Maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for it this day. I had a great experience here and even stoped by a 2nd time on my way home to have Scuba Steve, a Red Ale that was awesome! I ran into Sarah who I met @offthechaindogbar and told me she worked here. She remembered me and Barley! She even worked out where I could bring a mixed 6 pack of their other beers home with me. One they canned on the spot because it wasn’t in the cooler. Both times service was amazing and everyone was really friendly. It’s nice to be able to bring Barley and be both inside and out. Check this place out if your are in Greenville. If you do or have done Flying Rabbit Adventures let me know how it is!

On my last visit to Charleston I made a beer stop in West Columbia, SC @savagecraftaleworks This is a veteran owned brewery that creates a gathering place for the West Columbia community. Their taproom is a landmark in this area and has 3 spaces to enjoy your beverage. You can sit in the “jailhouse,” the beer garden or on the rooftop! Savage Craft Ale Works doesn’t do flights, but I was still able to try a few of their brews with my lunch. I got the Nashville Chicken sandwich with their Vanilla Cream Ale. I smelled the vanilla right off the top. Look how clear the beer is! It’s light on the palate with loads of vanilla and a slight creaminess on the finish. It went well with the spicy chicken. Galaxy Banger is an IPA that comes in at 7.5% abv and has lots of citrus on the nose. With Citra, Galaxy and Mosaic hops, it starts out dry, but finishes super juicy. There are tropical and citrus flavors all the way through the sip. I also had Gargoyle Tubesocks, another IPA. This one is brewed with Chinook, Centennial and Citra hops with a 6.9% abv. It has resin, hops and pine on the sniff and is just bitter enough and a little dry. Citrus shows up on the finish and it has a floral note after the swallow. It was my favorite of the three! I really wanted to have their 8.8% Savage Nitro Brunch Stout, but I was driving and had already had enough. The bartender did give me a little sample of it though and WOW! The scent was coffee and rich chocolate. The taste is so rich! The chocolate and coffee both shine and it has a creamy finish. Too bad I had 2 more hours to go. What a great place to visit in West Columbia! This is a spot you should definitely check out! I know I’ll be back!

I’m back! A week ago I had my phone stolen so it has been a mess getting all my stuff from my iCloud, but I’m glad to be back! Let me tell you about a pit stop I made in Columbia a few weeks ago @twisted_spur_brewing Chris Balding, the owner and head brewer grew up in Columbia, but lived and traveled the West Coast learning brewing techniques out there. He wants to create a unique experience that pairs the beer with amazing food. Twisted Spur Brewing filters their water 5 times before using it to brew beer! I had to get a flight that I paired with a quesadilla. I love quesadillas and this one was on point! My flight consisted of: •Twisted IPA which is a great West Coast style brew that is piney, bitter and dank. •My Milkshake Brings All the Boys To the Bar, a milkshake IPA with strawberry and blueberry notes along with lactose and a creamy mouthfeel. •Wildstyle Barrel Aged Sour is their Pale Ale aged in oak Chardonnay barrels for 7 months. This one smells like wine and the Chardonnay flavor really comes through. An oakiness from the barrels is also present and it has just a hint of sourness. It is really interesting and not something you’ll find anywhere else. •Twisted Spur Vanilla Porter was my favorite though! Emily the bartender (who was great by the way) suggested I go with the nitro version of this one. There is lots of vanilla flavor in this beer with some coffee and oatmeal notes and a creamy mouthfeel. This was my first time here, but I’m def not going to make it my last. If you are in Columbia this is a spot to visit for great beer and food!
