These Trees are special 🌳

Something about the contrast of the nature and electronics struck a chord with a larger audience, and made LED trees successful

It’s amazing that many of the core group of LED artists, designers and engineers who started building these trees in 2017 are still making LED art today

Our little group is grateful we get to share the joy of these installations with more and more people

It’s been quite the ride, from the early days at @symmetrylabs, to working with Calli and @stark_raven_fab on long fabrication and on site installations.

We’re excited and grateful to be building more trees this year! Stay tuned for more ❤️

Help me figure out these climbs!

With so many photos in so many places in Squamish, it's easy that route names get lost in the shuffle.
If you know the areas and names of these climbs please let me know!

Here is some hopefully helpful information of what I do remember:

Photo 1: some where in Murrin Park
Photo 2: somewhere close to parking and power lines in the smoke bluffs
Photo 3: on the Sheriff's Badge, left side I think. This is the second pitch (?) After an easier slab approach pitch
Photo 4: a bit up The Chief trail, then heading right off of the steps. Trad, multi pitch, this is pitch 1.
Photo 5: Chek, around the corner and on the way to one of the main hard overhung walls
Photo 6: somewhere on the Malamute. Fingery arching crack, trad.
Photo 7: somewhere in Chek and thats all I know.
Photo 8: Chek, main hard overhung wall.

It started out the same as most creatives….. I wanted to share stories, beautiful places, moments in time… The channels came, a place to let our voices be heard, a window into our worlds, A box to stand on, an outlet, a tool.…..Fast and furious like a forest fire art became content, content became validation, and validation became addiction. Soon the voices became a chamber of echoes and the windows we shared all started to look the same, the boxes we stood on were stolen from others. The tool became the prison.

Guilty of all, I wanted nothing more than to be published, to direct, to be the one who was called by the gatekeepers when the stills or moving pictures needed to be made…..

You repeat the process and churn out more, packaging the same idea differently, but it's all the same.

Instead of blaming the system, you blame yourself. You enter a vicious cycle. The spiral begins….

Content becomes transactional. It wants something from you, your attention, your time, and your money without giving anything back to you as a viewer or reader.

I post less, I create less, but it comes from a more authentic place. I used to want to shoot all the pros and all the coolest places, but now I just want to share the joy of my friends, I want to share their stoke, their fire, their challenges their experiences because we have flown close enough to the sun for to long, we have shared stories that have left others out, that don't matter, that echo the same old song and dance. Algorithmic manipulation just to get some followers, a sponsorship, or a commercial gig, it's left us thirsty for connection and truth.

We want to feel the human-ness of art again. We want to feel, we need to feel, and we need to understand others' experiences to feel.

The burnout is here but the wind is slowly pushing us back upright, we can nourish each other, and softly hold a window open to tell a different story to share value with our art, foster community, and inspire instead of influence.
