Gavin DeGraw · Through My Lens
.
There is something special about photographing an artist who can fill a stage while making the performance feel personal. Photographing Gavin DeGraw gave me so many opportunities to capture that connection.
.
I wanted these photographs to tell the story from different perspectives. Close portraits revealing his expressions and gestures, moments at the keyboard, and wider views bringing the audience into the frame. Together, they reflect the atmosphere I wanted to preserve.
.
The lighting added another dimension. Warm reds brought intensity to his face, while deep blues created a beautiful sense of space around him. His distinctive hat gave the images a recognisable silhouette, with each turn of his head offering a different composition.
.
These are the moments I love looking for through my camera: a glance, an outstretched hand, or a smile that allows something of the music to live on in a photograph.
