🔥 #run #university #rome #5km

I don’t know if anyone else can relate, but when I travel, I feel like the places I randomly stumble upon end up being some of my favourite spots ☕️🌿 Alberto and I found this little café in Rome while cycling through Testaccio, and we immediately fell in love. It’s an old tram turned into the sweetest café, soft music playing in the background, delicious lattes, and the kind of vibe that makes you want to stay a little longer. It’s also literally around the corner from some of Rome’s best pizza and pasta, too🍝 A little reminder that sometimes the best travel moments are the ones you never planned. 📍 Tram Depot Testaccio, Rome 🇮🇹

Capolinea raggiunto. - Last stop reached. 🚋💛 Yesterday morning we ran together through the streets of Rome and ended up in the best spot in town, the old tram at Tram Depot, surrounded by coffee, plants and the usual great crowd. New faces, old friends, conversations that didn’t want to end. This is what we mean when we say the run is only the beginning. Thank you Tram Depot for having us, and thank you to every single one of you who showed up. Next stop, the next run!

Sharing some pics from a handful of recent scouting trips to Testaccio, one of Rome’s most vibrant and food-obsessed neighborhoods: 🏛️ The first thing you see if you arrive via the Piramide stop on metro line B is the Pyramid built by Roman politician Caius Cestius and the Porta Di San Paolo (pic 1) 🍊 The @mercatoditestaccio contains 100 stalls selling everything from vintage clothes to fresh fruit and vegetables, cheeses, salumi, meat and even hard-to-find vegan ingredients (pic 2) 🥐 @fornoritorno is a hip new bakery/cafe with vintage film stills and movie posters on the walls (pics 3 & 4) ⛲️ The Fontana delle Amphore was inspired by the neighborhood’s Roman past and stands on Piazza Testaccio, the neighborhood’s beating heart (pic 5) 🎨 The former slaughterhouse (@mattatoio) has been transformed into an art center and cultural hub that shows temporary exhibitions (pic 6) 🍹 @tramdepot_ is the perfect spot to sit and chill with a coffee or cocktail. An old tram was upcycled to make the kiosk (pic 7) 🍝 @perilliatestaccio has been serving carbonara, amatriciana, and other Roman classics for more than a century (pics 8 & 9) 🍷 @bernabei.it stocks an excellent selection of wines, including hard-to-find bottles (pic 10) 🔗 For lots more tips, my Testaccio guide is available to paid subscribers of my Substack, the New Roman Times.
