Join us! Running weekly since January, this drop in community session is a place to exhale, make new connections, have lunch, and get confidential support for challenges you might be facing! Supplemented by a community chat for LGBTQIA+ students, alums, and allies, this is a place to be witnessed, held, to share celebrations and grief, and to know that others get it — it’s a complicated and even scary time to be an LGBTQIA+ person. How do we navigate these times? Guidance from a nonbinary trans queer elder community organizer and educator, who also happens to be our InterSpiritual campus minister is a place to start! We also share collective wisdom about any number of real life things we’re navigating, point each other to resources, and so much more. We kept remembering the voice of a little girl who helped us weave during the @ecoartspace @urban_soils residency this summer on @governorsisland!
That’s the beauty of collective making: all of the voices energies and hands who helped weave are part of this fabric — are part of the sacred tree of SOIL:FIELD of AWARENESS.

This Sunday, many Judsonites (including Revs. Bridget and Micah) will be in Connecticut at the Judson Weekend in the woods, but we'll still hold a regular 11am service in person at Judson and online, led by Rev. Elæ Moss Benedetto, who will gently lead us into "Enemy Territory."⁠

Who gets called an enemy—and what happens when we refuse the comfort of that label? This week, Rev. Elæ Moss Benedetto wrestles with the limits of “love the sinner,” the failures of purity tests and false binaries, and the hard work of naming harm without surrendering compassion. Through sacred text, song, testimony, and histories of resistance, we’ll ask what accountability, restorative justice, and collective care require when our communities, neighbors, rights, and planet are under attack. When does love look like a willingness—even a commitment—to sit at the table together, and when does love require drawing a hard line? Joined by special musical guest Rev. Andrew “Scrap” Livingston.⁠

Some of my favorite photos that I’ve taken this year have been of the graduates of One Spirit, an interspiritual/interfaith organization and learning community that prepares spiritual seekers for sacred leadership and service. (I am also lucky enough to be a part of their team 💚)

While I documented the graduate retreat and commencement ceremony, I got to witness a group of joyful, soulful, heart-centered individuals gather to pray, dance, laugh, sing, hold one another, and honor the wisdom they have gathered through walking this path together. I teared up multiple times hearing students’ testimonies about how their time at One Spirit has transformed them, often helping them get through some of the most difficult chapters of their lives and come out on the other side more resilient, steady, and clear on their purpose.

The experience reminded me of the power of spiritual community - how it functions as a foundation to hold us as we navigate the uncharted territory of our own lives. I am tremendously grateful for everything I have learned from One Spirit, and for the unique role they play as a leader in interspiritual education and collective transformation.

Congratulations to all of the newly ordained reverends - we are so excited to witness the continued expression of your gifts and unique purpose in this world 💚

It was a joy to spend a few days this week with @prattministry , meet the incoming freshmen, and talk about the role of spiritual caregivers on campus. Hope everything is official with the team soon, that I can represent the dharma well in some small way, and meet student needs with compassion, spacious presence, and care

There’s also so many amazing dharma teachings coming up this fall, @yesnooraspider and I are getting closer to wrapping our study of Karmapa Rangjung Dorje’s Mahamudra Aspiration, and my mom is coming to stay with @ianscottstoner and I for a few days

All of this is a constellation lighting what has otherwise has been a dark, trying time, but so goes the nature of samsara: nothing is certain or steady, change and suffering are inevitable, good comes with bad, and only by giving and receiving compassion do we have a chance to rise from the mud like lotus flowers

Such gratitude for time shared in reflection and visioning, connection and care this past week among collaborators, comrades, and other friends of Faith in Harm Reduction. May all the labors of love, woven near and far for the hope of a world remade in devoted solidarity with people who use drugs and people who do sex work, be strengthened and nurtured with fierce and tender care.
