LOFI MICROPHONE. The PAYPHONE MICROPHONE by @trash_talk_audio is a payphone microphone with an XLR tastefully jammed into its rear. It’ll strip out polish from your recording and add lofi character to your voice/instrument*/pet screeching**.

Indispensable to the endeavour is:

1. The MP-10 by @franklin_audio .It makes your microphone LOUDER without affecting the quality of the sound. Turn it up enough and the mic will start picking up your neighbours complain about the latest episode of COPS. THE MP-10 also takes your XLR input and gives you a quarter inch output, which means that you can run your microphone through effect pedals. Speaking of which…

2. Effect pedals: Here I’m using @acnoises CONTINUA for some pitchshifty and bitcrushy goodness. Thanks to the MP-10, you can run your microphone through any effect pedal.

The PAYPHONE MICROPHONE is not a microphone for glossy sounds. It’s tiny dynamic range compresses roars as cascades of noise. Whispers get brought right up to your eardrum with crackling distortion. It’s that Brian Eno chestnut - this is a microphone that emphasizes that whatever you’re expressing is too powerful for the medium to contain it.

I’m speaking into this demo because I’m waiting on a mic stand to hold it. The second this thing can stand on its own, I’m taking it into an endless stairwell and recording sad and lonely piano.
