My last Quick Draw on Jackson’s Town Square for a while…..Long my favorite Fall Arts Festival event, there’s nothing that fills the heart of a soul who’s been following the arts here for over 30 years. You all take my breath away. So much love, more memories than it’s possible to count. Love you forever and ever, Amen! • #jacksonhole #quickdraw #artists #fallartsfestival #westerncontemporaryart

Travis Walker’s paintings often reward sustained looking, and Hot Flashes No. 2 is no exception. 🐻 Its economy of means is striking. Color, shape, and scale do much of the work, producing an image that feels at once humorous, melancholic, and deeply human. The circular form creates a contained visual world, while the surrounding bands of landscape offer only the barest sense of place, almost like an afterimage. Walker’s restraint is central to how the painting operates. Nothing is overdetermined, and the simplicity of the composition allows small relationships between forms to carry weight. The image resists the impulse toward narrative clarity, instead holding itself in a more open, reflective register. There is a sense that meaning is being suggested rather than declared, and that withholding is part of the work’s structure. The result is less a scene than a state of mind, one that lingers in its ambiguity without resolving into explanation. In a nostalgic glimpse into the American living room, PBS, Travis Walker perfectly captures his signature blend of the mundane and the surreal. Heavily influenced by American regionalists like Edward Hopper and Grant Wood, Walker is celebrated for his ability to transform ordinary scenes into cinematic moments full of profound, playful narrative tension. Here, the untamed nature of the American West is boxed into a vintage television set, delivering a brilliant dose of irony and kitsch right to the living room floor. As the founder of Teton Artlab and a former Artist in Residence at the National Museum of Wildlife Art, Walker has spent over a decade documenting the unique visual landscape of Jackson Hole. His work acts as a vital anchor for our highly anticipated upcoming exhibition, Radiant Beasts, opening at our Bozeman gallery on June 10th. By juxtaposing wild creatures within suburban contexts, Walker uses his electric color theory to treat the animal kingdom as a rich medium for storytelling rather than merely a specimen to be studied. We invite you to join us on June 10th at our Bozeman location to experience this vibrant, immersive exhibition in person. The American West has always served as the ultimate backdrop for our cultural myths. In Dark Side of the Canyon, Travis Walker replaces the solitary, stoic cowboy with a much darker icon. Looking out over the vast expanse of the Grand Canyon, Darth Vader transforms a revered natural wonder into a cinematic matte painting. It is a brilliant visualization of how pop culture and fine art continuously feed off one another. The classic Western films of the mid century heavily inspired the space operas of the 1970s, and Walker brings that visual loop full circle by dropping a sci fi legend directly into a contemporary landscape. Raised as a nomadic Air Force brat immersed in comic books and science fiction, Walker eventually laid down roots in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Over the last twenty years, he has mastered the contemporary Western landscape while never losing his childhood fascinations. He paints with a sharp, graphic clarity that elevates nostalgic pop icons into the realm of serious contemporary art. For collectors looking to anchor a room with a monumental and conversation starting work, this large scale canvas delivers. It balances undeniable technical skill with a playful, subversive wit that commands attention.
