🌟 3 DAYS LEFT 🌟

To view our popular summer exhibition, WORD. Featuring 11 contemporary artists, WORD celebrates the enduring power of language to connect, question, document, persuade, remember, and imagine in an age saturated with information. These artists remind us that words are more than carriers of meaning. They are visual forms, cultural markers, and enduring vessels of human expression.

Contact us to schedule a private viewing appointment before the show closes this Saturday, September 5th. A private appointment gives you the luxury of learning the stories behind your favorite works and the artists that made them. Our knowledgeable staff is happy to consult you on the piece that is just right for your home, both visually and emotionally.

🌟 4 DAYS AWAY 🌟

Stanek Gallery Miami’s upcoming exhibition, WORD, opens this Friday, July 17th from 5pm - 8pm. RSVP through the link in our bio. ✨

Bringing together a diverse group of contemporary artists, WORD explores the many ways language inhabits visual art. Here you’ll find 3 examples of the different ways featured artists Jacqueline Boyd, Treacy Ziegler, and Mickayel Thurin use WORD(s) in their work.

Jacqueline Boyd’s mixed media masterpiece, “Ephemeral 14” unites acrylic paint, washi paper, graphite, and ink on Hahnemühle paper to create an abstract work full of vibrant movement with a mysterious cursive note hidden upside down in the center of the piece.

Treacy Ziegler takes a more direct and witty approach, carving “I AM A CAT” into the base of her 14 x 8 x 8 inch concrete cat sculpture. Holding the soulful gaze that Ziegler’s animals are know for, the presence of these WORD(s) create a humorous juxtaposition while still highlighting the skill and craft that is required to create such a stylized rendition of a life-sized feline.

Mickayel Thurin introduces figures and mantras into the mix, painting “untie your mindset from outcomes” alongside the curvature of a vivid character leaning back in a dreamlike state.

Join us THIS Friday to experience the versatile ways 11 artists approach using WORD(s) in their work!

🗨️ TREACY ZIEGLER: In her own words...

“My intention in creating art is irrelevant. I like to believe that art exists in a state of ‘without why’ and 'just because.' Not in the sense that the art speaks for itself as this suggests that the art has to fit into the conceptual space of language. And not in the sense of art for art’s sake as this alternatively suggests that art exists outside the unity of living experience. Art needs no language; it is tacit. Call it unvoiced; or better, pre-voice. However, having said that, in developing art, I must begin at some reference point of experience. I begin with specific space, form, light and shadow in which these elements are evocative and, again, without voice, without a why. I follow this initial reference point, a place, a room, in a certain mood following an aesthetic path rather than a thinking one. My guides along the way are color harmony, composition and light and shadow. The residual narrative is a trace of the original reference point.”

4TH ANNUAL SCULPTORS’ RETREAT INVITATIONAL

It’s difficult to summarize something this rare, an event built as much on its ethos as its experience.

For three days, sculptors gathered to work side by side, to exchange ideas, to observe, moving between rooms, between poses, between conversations that carry on long after the work ends.

You could feel it everywhere, the energy, the focus, the generosity of everyone’s collective spirit.

🗨️ TREACY ZIEGLER: A powerful statement about the Dress Series

"Persephone’s Sister" | "Leda and the Swan" | "The Oracle"

“These paintings are dedicated to all those women who have been forgotten in the trauma of living.

This could be any woman who has experienced subjection; subjection from another more dominant person, a job that doesn’t fully recognize their ability or potential, too many jobs and not enough time in the support of raising a family. There are many reasons why women find themselves with little control over their lives.

This is most obvious in the incarceration of women. I have worked in numerous maximum-security and super-maximum-security prisons for men. However, the most distressing of prisons was a minimal style camp for women. One would think as a camp, this prison would be easier – more freedom and more opportunities for the incarceration. It was not.

In teaching art to these women, I was struck with how little regard they had for themselves. They belittled themselves and did not have the same kind of confidence in creating art that I saw in the men’s prisons. I wondered if this lack of self-regard related to their crimes resulting in their incarceration. Most women were in this prison because they committed crimes to “protect their man in the commission of his crime” –not for their own crimes.

At the time, the Department of Corrections was consolidating all incarcerated women into one prison and each time I arrived at the prison, my class got smaller and smaller. Until one day, I only had one woman in my class. This woman was initially embarrassed that only she, herself, was taking up my time. I assured her I was happy to give her a private drawing lesson. She added, again embarrassed, that she actually liked being in prison. It was the first place she ever had time for herself. On the outside, she worked a number of jobs with no time to read, draw, or do anything for herself. All her energy, money, and time were dedicated to raising her kids independently of another’s support. It was in prison she read her first book in years and now, she was “getting a private drawing lesson!”...Please contact the Gallery for the full statement.
