POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

6,200 miles. That’s how far I was from home when I received the news that would turn my world upside down.

My dad was excited when I told him that, I was going on a trip to Japan. So much so that, for my birthday, he surprised me by going half in on the cost.

Before I left town, I went over to watch the Chiefs game with my mom & pops. After the win, I dapped up my pops in the usual fashion, squeezed his head, and told him I loved him as he wished me a safe & exciting travels.

I didn’t know that night would be the last time we ever spoke. ❤️‍🩹

~~~
The last 365 days have been a blur. The seasons have come & gone, and yet it still feels as if it’s only been a handful of weeks since my father’s passing. My heart still races from time to time. The numbness comes in waves. The joyful light this life once held, struggles to stay aflame.
I’ve described to my counselor that I feel like a boxer in the ring, with a coach no longer in my corner to spur me on.
“But you know your father’s voice right?” My counselor asked me.
“Yea.”
“You know how he thought, how he talked, and you know the type of advice he would give, right?”
“Yea, I guess so.”
“So even though your father may not be with you [physically], your father is still with you [in essence].”
That moment unlocked something in me. That it’s not just about what my father left us with, but most importantly, what my father left in us.
~~~

His legacy lives through us in every story we tell, in the way we think, the way we move, and everything in between.

But my father also did leave us with something, and that moment with my counselor reminded me of how I wanted to honor the legacy of what my father meant not just to me & my family, but all those who had the opportunity to know him. 💙

I don’t know how long this journey will take. But I can’t wait to share my father’s words, wisdom, and what he meant with you all. 📖🙏🏾

After plenty of consideration, I have decided to retire from @royals_kcrew after 5 seasons.

This role has meant the absolute world to me. I am forever grateful for the opportunities this job has given me, the chance to engage with thousands of fans, and the amazing people I had the privilege of working with along the way. My coworkers and bosses are truly what make this job so special, and I feel very lucky to have been surrounded by the very best.

I’m thankful for all the growth this job has given me. As always, Go Royals 👑 💙

“27. That’s the number of years I got with my father. And in those 27 years, I’ve had 27 birthdays and 27 Christmases. Numerous graduations, celebrations, and everything in between, all of which I’ve received gifts.

And you could stack all the gifts together and they would amount to absolutely nothing, because nothing, and I mean that with the utmost sincerity, nothing beats the gift of a good father.”🌹

Pops, you have ran your race and finished your course. You can finally rest as we pick up the torch and carry the flame forward. Your spirit lives through each & every life you’ve touched, and your legacy continues through us, your boys.

So often, you’ve told us how much you’re proud of us, but man, we are so proud of you. We couldn’t have asked for a better father.

We love you & until we meet again, rest easy playa. 💙💐
