An appreciation post.. 📣

Since starting Actors Lab Cork, we’ve had the pleasure of working with some incredibly talented people across the industry — actors, casting directors, producers, directors, MDs and coaches.

Each person has brought something different to ALC, generously sharing their knowledge, experience and passion for the craft.

Here’s to the people who make the work possible, the craft that keeps us curious, and everything still to come! ⚡️🔥

“Known throughout the industry not only for her curly locks, but her energy, driving enthusiasm and her strong moral compass.”

Time for some burning questions, then! 🔥

Join us for an Industry Spotlight with Tree Petts (@treepettscasting) an award-winning London-based casting director with over 20 years’ experience. Tree has cast over 2,000 commercials alongside films and music videos, and founded @cdassoc to help maintain standards in the industry.

In this moderated Q&A, we’ll ask: To be represented or not to be? Can casting directors see beyond highly produced reels? And can you ever truly stay on a casting director’s radar?

We’re delighted to share our recent interview with Philip Clyde-Smith and Eliza Power, director and writer of indie horror comedy short A Hand To Hold, which is screening at the Shared Sight Film Festival on Saturday 26th September as part of our The Second Coming shorts block. A Hand to Hold blends horror with pitch-black Irish comedy, exploring themes of grief and toxic relationships. The film features an original score by Golden Globe nominated composer Brian Byrne.

Check out the full interview below.

https://youtu.be/YEqlxp1mKD4?si=LRb5xiA2vtpLMem-

Synopsis: Moira, an elderly Irish woman, finds herself literally attached to her deceased husband Patrick. When his hand refuses to let go after death, it leads to increasingly grotesque events. Everyone in the couple’s orbit, from their daughter to the local doctor, a farmer, a priest, and a Satanist, all try to intervene with horrific consequences.

Join us this September at Strange Little Obsessions in Nottingham. This isn’t a convention, it’s a horror and alternative culture event, bringing together dark film, art, music, storytelling and independent creators. In addition to the 32 incredible horror films screening over the weekend at the Shared Sight Film Festival, you’ll be able to enjoy:

Same actor. Same role. Two very different moments. 🎬

Top — the selftape I sent to book it. Bottom — the final cut that aired.

Notice how the lines shifted between casting and broadcast. That’s normal. What doesn’t change is the foundation — a clear moment before, specific beats, an action that’s alive in every single take whether it’s take 1 in your bedroom or take 12 on set.

That’s what you need for a tape that gets you in the room and a performance that makes the final cut.

Beats and actions aren’t just a film thing. In commercials they’re everything — you have less than 30 seconds to make it real.
