A concrete and live edge slab table from a couple years ago. A true team collaboration with @treepurposed (live edge center slab), @line_studio_detroit (concrete edge
slabs) and T2 Fabrication (aluminum pedestals and base plate) and us (engineering, coordination, finishing, fitting the dovetail keys, and installation).

We had a morning blizzard, a house full of tradespeople, and a very long and narrow hallway to carry the table down. In the end, we have a very happy homeowner and an even happier designer.

Our live edge slab table is in the finish room. We’ve already finished the bases, but the top is so heavy that once it goes in, it stays until it’s done. In order to keep the slab flat, we shoot a coat on the bottom first thing in the morning, allow it to cure, flip it and shoot the top. Repeat for four days. Delivery end of next week.

Some details of the incredible grain on the live edge slab table after it was stained this afternoon. There are curly sections, feather crotch figured areas, and great heart wood grain and color. We added some walnut dovetail keys to highlight the light sap wood and balance out the figuring on the other end of the top.

This amazing live-edge book matched walnut top, 49” wide and 102” long, is in final prep before finishing. The slabs were supplied, milled and epoxied by @treepurposed. We are making trapezoidal walnut bases to support it and finishing everything with a natural stain and a sprayed matte urethane. This combination highlights the natural beauty of the walnut and gives it a warm soft sheen.

To think the original plan was to have these drawer fronts painted. I started cutting the poplar that simply came from @menardshomeimprovement and decided the grain was way too pretty.

Based on everyone's feedback, comments, and messages - This built-in closet appears to be the biggest hit of Etta's room.

Designing closets is definitely my favorite part of custom carpentry. I joked about making that my company's only service. Quite often removing doors and adding smart storage can make any room/entryway feel more open, more custom , and obviously provide more storage.

This closet is right behind the entry door and having a door on the closet was super impractical. So we ditched the door and then utilized a slab of tulip poplar that we originally had slated for our bathroom vanity. After I saw that poplar countertop installed, I decided to lean into it even further. Ended up doing poplar drawers, shelf, basket dividers, and even found a closet rod.

What's your favorite part of this closet build? Let me know!
