Look what's happening at Mt Maunganui College!

Our trees have found a new home at Mount Maunganui College 🌱 Their awesome Horticulture students and Environment Group have been planting natives for seven years, including restoring a gully in Welcome Bay. Now they’re keen to bring the local primary and intermediate kids along too. Growing future kaitiaki, one tree at a time 💚

We’re so proud our Trees That Count support is helping make this happen. Papatūānuku thanks you, Mount Maunganui College! 🙌

Your weak human hands make mandarins tricky to peel, but a tough kākā beak makes easy work of just about anything.

Kākā are extremely resourceful when looking for food and will use their beaks to open fruits and to rip bark to find grubs and sap.

These smart, capable birds can find their own food. If you want to welcome birds into your backyard, plant native trees that are suitable to your area (@treesthatcount has a great guide), and control predators with a trap from our shop (link in bio)

It’s a wrap! We’ve officially finished sowing the cleared land with cover crops to do all we can to improve soil structure, health and protect new natives from climate conditions across the next two years.

Untold thanks to Davenports Law for their partnership and investment in us since inception. They allow us to cloak Papatūānuku with healthy cover preventing plant pests from invading native Rakau and offering pollinators sanctuary. Manu love it too!

The Life NZ community spent their Saturday morning sowing cover crop seeds with thick compost from Untangled Landcapes who create a biome that is rich in nutrients, bacteria and mycelium to ensure plant growth and survival. Auckland Council Park Ranger Theo, helped to secure funds for land clearance and preparation with Healthy Waters.

We will be caring for this whenua for the next 5-10 years to ensure it reaches canopy cover in the best way possible.

Massive thanks to the stakeholders who have worked hard to clear another 1500m2 unused land to extend the regenerating ngāhere in Auckland City

This week, AIA Vitality Members can hit their AIA Vitality Active Rewards target, donate their reward to @treesthatcount, and AIA Vitality will match it - turning a $5 donation into $10 to plant more native trees across Aotearoa New Zealand.

While a single $5 donation may seem small, collective donations together can help restore native forests, improve waterways, support biodiversity, and create lasting benefits for future generations.
