Hair salon review episode 16 🎀 with @noquesalon and @elleschair !

➡️ Location… 7/10 - it’s located at @tressly.studios (Lewisham shopping centre). I don’t particularly like that area but it’s very easy to access though!

➡️ Ambience: 9/10 - The salon is so aesthetic and pretty! Perfect playlist, you can buy your favourite hair products from there and it’s just very insta worthy.

➡️ Service: 10/10 - Both Jessica and Elle were so so lovely! Very quick but also so talented. We didn’t have a clear inspo yet the outcome turned out ten times better than what I would’ve expected 😍 INSAAAAANE

Come with us to TikTok HQ! 👀🤎

We headed to the @tress.ly x @tiktok_uk event for a day of all things HAIR + CONTENT. ➰📱

As a former professional hairdresser who STILL does my sister Sunshine’s hair, this was definitely my type of event. 🩷💛

We learnt how to create better TikTok Shop content, got tips directly from the TikTok team, watched live hair demos and discovered products from brands including @remingtonuk , @sharkbeautyuk, @bauerprofessional @bsset.official, @bareanatomy.haircare and @lilyeve_global .

And of course, I couldn’t just WATCH the demos… I had to get involved in one myself.💃🏽

We also met some amazing hairstylists and fellow creators and, safe to say, we definitely didn’t leave empty-handed. 👀🛍️

So many ideas for future hair content unlocked! 🔓

BLACK HAIR IS ART: A SHORT STORY

My London Fashion Week looks drew on a number of inspirations I wish to share with you.

My Fashion Culture History platform. My weekly episodes explore Black culture’s impact on style, power and identity. I have explored and researched topics such as braids, bamboo earrings, nails … aspects of Black beauty that were condemned by traditional institutions and European beauty standards as ‘ghetto’ ‘loud’ ‘vulgar’ … to name a few. I wanted to bring these styles into high fashion as a mic drop moment.

@kayratheodore was my hair inspiration. I have a lot of her images saved on my Pinterest board for its beauty and originality. I never thought I would ever be bold enough to even attempt to replicate any of her looks. I said to myself, for LFW my hair needs to LEAD the look, not FINISH the look. Not an ounce of hair styling experience, sis got some braiding hair and wire, and we tried a ting. Go big or go home, so glad I did.

I’m seeing the resurgence of hair shows and it really fascinates me. I’m obsessed with the ways in which the culture creates spectacle so unapologetically, in everything we do. I even saw @cecred perform a hair show for their UK launch last week. Coincidentally it was on the same evening I wore this white look, and received so many DMs asking if I was at their event. The long braids, the silver durag, the performance, I would’ve lapped it up.

My next episode for @fashionculturehistory is about Black hair shows, which I will drop later today. I have tagged a number of key people in this post who either currently contribute to Black culture’s impact and innovation, or need to sit up and see our impact in the fashion and beauty space. I’m a Black woman, but I’m also a Black British woman, and love to see visual representations like this, even when I create it myself.

LFW for me was not about looking pretty, there was a visual story to tell, and I hope I did it justice 🤍🤍🤍
