POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Almost logging off before my holiday. Always happy to spend time with the sellers and plant hunters here, Bandung being one of those places, where we share our stories. One thing they keep sharing with me: the Indonesian government has little grasp of the real scale of the horticultural trade here. It checks out. At this year’s CITES meeting, the concern raised was about Dendrobium leaving the country for medicinal use, not the far larger volume moving for ornamental reasons. Two very different trades, only one of them being watched. #kebun #garden #orchid #plants

Traunsteinera globosa

The Globe Orchid or Round Headed Orchid

It is one of the most unusual European orchids. The only species of this genus in Europe. At first glance, the inflorescence looks more like a small purple-pink “stick” than a typical orchid. Its spherical inflorescence consists of dozens of tiny flowers packed so closely together that they resemble a pincushion or a miniature cauliflower.

Hlavinka horská

Dactylorhiza sambucina

The Elder-flowered Orchid 🇬🇧

The specific name sambucina and its English translation come from the plant’s light scent, which resembles that of the common elder tree (Sambucus nigra). It is a terrestrial orchid found widely throughout the mountainous regions of Europe. The species naturally appears in two distinct color variations: yellow and purple-red.

Orchids have always fascinated people around the world with their incredible beauty. With thousands of species found in nature, each one reveals its own unique colors, shapes, and character. From vibrant purples and bright yellows to soft pinks, pure whites, and even rare blues, every orchid bloom feels like a small masterpiece painted by nature.

Among these stunning plants, one group truly stands out — the majestic Vanda orchids, often considered the queens of orchids from Thailand.

What makes Vandas so special isn’t just their large, vibrant flowers, but also their signature look: exposed roots. Unlike most plants, Vandas grow freely without traditional potting media, allowing their roots to hang in the air. And honestly, that’s where their real charm is.

Those strong, silvery roots absorb moisture from the air, creating a plant that looks almost suspended in space. It’s a perfect blend of elegance, strength, and natural design.

When Vandas bloom, they become breathtaking living art, producing spectacular flower clusters that can last for weeks and instantly bring color and sophistication to any space.

For orchid collectors and plant lovers, Vandas are more than just flowers — they are a true symbol of beauty and passion for nature.

Growing Vanda orchids successfully comes down to four essential factors: light, watering, environment, and fertilization.

When these elements are in balance, the plant clearly shows it.
Healthy Vandas develop strong, vigorous roots with silvery-white velamen, a clear sign that the plant is thriving.

You’ll also notice bright, pointed root tips, which indicate active growth and excellent plant health.

This balance allows the orchid to perform efficient photosynthesis, absorb nutrients properly, and build the energy it needs to produce strong and spectacular blooms.

In orchid growing, the plant always tells the story — you just have to observe the signs.

The Cattleya leopoldii alba variety is truly a spectacle of Brazilian nature 🇧🇷✨

With its long, ribbed pseudobulbs, this orchid carries both strength and elegance in a single plant. The alba form captivates with the purity of its white flowers, bringing a sense of lightness, sophistication, and that classic charm that only cattleyas have.

And the fragrance? 🌸
A soft, pleasant scent that gently reminds you of vanilla, filling the air with a delicate and inviting perfume.

This is the kind of orchid that never goes unnoticed — whether in a greenhouse or as a highlight in a collector’s display. A true living jewel from Brazil. 💎🌿

Would you add one of these to your collection?

Not all hybrids are ordinary… some are extraordinary. 🌿✨

This stunning orchid was created from a powerful cross between Paphiopedilum sanderianum and Paphiopedilum philippinense — two iconic slipper orchids known for their dramatic length, bold striping, and exotic presence.

Originally bred in Thailand, this specific pairing was intentional and carefully designed. The result? Long, flowing petals, striking patterns, and a floral display that looks like a living sculpture.

Even as a hybrid, it holds rarity and prestige because of its precise genetics and origin. Today, it’s admired by collectors and professional growers worldwide — proof that expert breeding can elevate nature’s beauty to another level.

Orchids are more than flowers… they’re science, art, and evolution working together. 🌱
