Fire has always been more than just a flame to us.

Be it in #Mopungchuket, my village, or #Mokokchung, my hometown, or in every Naga home, fire is our first gathering place. It’s the heart of the house where the air smells of woodsmoke and the stories of our ancestors. In the Bible, fire is how God showed His presence, guiding through the desert and refining what is precious. As I look at our family, I see that same presence in the glow on our faces.

This fire is a magnet that pulls us all together. On these biting winter nights, it doesn’t just warm our skin; it draws out the laughter. It turns individuals into a circle of belonging. Around this fire, silence softens into storytelling, old memories are dusted off and retold, and the love between us is quietly re-bonded, stronger than before.

I love seeing these three generations in our circle. I see my aunties and uncles pounding rice with that steady, rhythmic "thud-thud" that has echoed through our lives to make our amzü (rice cakes). And then there are the kids capturing the sparks for their reels. It’s not a conflict; it’s a beautiful continuity. It’s our culture breathing, moving, and staying alive through the hands of every generation.

This fire is our warmth, our fellowship, and our identity. It is the space where our faith and our family sit down together.

As the embers glow and we say goodbye to a deeply blessed 2025, my heart is just full. I am so thankful for these hands that pound the rice, these voices that tell the stories, and the traditions that hold us steady when the world feels fast.

We step into 2026 together, warmed by such fires and held by this love.
Happy New Year 2026 to you and your loved ones. May your hearth never go cold.

A day in Mopungchuket village begins quietly, with mist still resting on the hills. Village activities slowly come alive as people step out with brooms, cleaning the paths together, sharing small smiles and greetings. From the kitchens, the warm smell of local pork cooking fills the air, mixing with the sound of firewood crackling. Children run freely, their laughter echoing between houses, turning ordinary moments into memories.

As the day moves on, some head to church, carrying their prayers and gratitude, while others remain behind, tending to daily chores. The sun slowly sinks behind the hills, painting the sky in soft shades of gold and orange. Evening settles gently, and the village breathes in peace once more.

Here, life flows simply, deeply, and together.
In Mopungchuket, the story never ends. 🌄
