I’m calling this buck “Rodney” in honor of my uncle Rob that recently passed away. Rob would always do Rodney Dangerfield impersonations that would light up an entire room. (Story⬇️)

This hunt was not what I had in mind when I came to Oregon to get my daughter her first deer. After 3 days of hunting she was burnt out. She did so incredible and if not for a gun malfunction she would have had her first deer. We told her that everything happens for a reason, we didn’t know what that reason was and this is not what I had envisioned for that “reason” I asked lake if she was done hunting and she said yes, so me not wanted to eat a 600$ tag I set out with valor.

I earned a whole new respect and appreciation for my boy Valor. At 5 years old he did what most grown men couldn’t do and with not one complaint.

On the way to the spot I saw my brother Cameron in a gas station parking lot, told him let’s go and we went off. No questions asked he was in! We hiked down into a burn, filled with blow down, steep and nasty. The rain moved in with the wind and cold. It was genuinely miserable. 30 minutes into glass this buck popped out. With minimal time left, an out of state tag and the people that were with me there was no way I wasn’t shooting this awesome forky!

After a crap show of shooting(my gun was about 2moa high for some reason) I put a perfect shot in him after we were able to use the @ollincompany to film and see where I was hitting.

Now the insane work began, hiking down a basically straight vertical ridge and across the nasty terrain of the burn we got to the buck. Took photos and began butchering. As I was almost done I told cam to get my boy out of here before it got dark. So they went on their way.

I finished the buck up through the whole thing in my @initialascent weighing well over 110 pounds and began the ascent. This pack out hurt, soaking wet, cold, very steep, slick, fighting brush and blow downs. I finally made it to the truck.

When I reached the truck Cam told me how valor hiked the entire way on his own, not one complaint telling himself “I’m tough” I lost it. Balled like a little baby so proud of my boy.
