‘Nostalgia as a Network’ - an article I started writing exactly a year ago that was published in @triggerfomu online magazine last spring. Celebrating the 37th anniversary of The Baltic Way seems like the perfect opportunity to share my discussion with @90s_latvia & @eesti_90ndad about how nostalgia for the early Independence period of the Baltic States, connects people virtually. Special thanks to @tom.viaene.31 @andreastultiens and @willboase for guidance!

How does publishing shape collective gathering and exchange? Join us during Tashattot’s 𝙎𝙒𝘼𝙉𝘼 𝙇𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 & 𝘼𝙧𝙩 𝙁𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙡 for 𝗣𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀, a conversation on publishing, traces, and collective practices with Joachim Ben Yakoub, Barrack Zailaa Rima and Charbel Alkhoury, moderated by Tom Viaene 📅 06.06. 18h-20h at Kaaistudios 🗣️ EN 🩶 FREE (limited capacity, come early) This conversation departs from the book 𝙏𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙜𝙚𝙧 #6: 𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙨, approaching publishing as a form of gathering. Through the lens of “paper assemblies,” it explores how printed matter such as magazines, posters, and postcards can carry traces, circulate stories, and continue to bring people together across time and place. The panel considers how publishing connects dispersed geographies, and how traces, memories, and stories continue to circulate, gather, and shift meaning over time. 📸 cover of Trigger #6: Assemblies

I wrote an essay for the new digital publication Networking the Audience by @triggerfomu, in collaboration with @photographyandsociety and @aalto_photography. In it, I explore MEMEry — where meme meets memory — as a living, collective archive shaped through images in circulation. Not just jokes, but fragments of resistance. Tiny, volatile capsules where humour, trauma, and politics collide. We live inside a storm of networked propaganda, where facts blur, and histories get rewritten in real time. Yet somewhere in that chaos, memes detonate. Not always, not all of them, as sometimes we just need to laugh, scroll, and survive. But sometimes they hit differently. Like photographic grenades, carrying compressed emotion, critique, and remembrance across platforms. This text grows out of my own practice, especially Tropical Trauma Misery Tour, and from the Brazilian memetic wave that erupted during the 2024 Olympics to Oscar’s winner Ainda Estou Aqui and its actors (@oficialfernandatorres and @seltonmello ), folding cinema, humor and resistance to erupt the film’s resonance. The publication exists in two forms: an online issue and a Telegram edition, because meaning shifts depending on where images land and how they travel. You can read it via Trigger (fomu.be/trigger) or on Telegram (t.me/triggerxmaps) With contributions by:

Delighted to have my text included in Triggers most recent issue ’Networking the Audience’. In my essay I discuss the liberatory potential of the @virtualtreasury through an interview with the programme’s co-director Ciarán Wallace. The publication unfolds in two formats: an online issue and a custom Telegram edition, testing how images—and their meanings—transform across platforms. Today we’re launching something very special! Last year, an open call was issued among MAPS alumni, students, and staff. After a year of collaboration, @triggerfomu launches ‘Networking the Audience’ in collaboration with MAPS and @aalto_photography , launched during the #helsinkiphotomedia conference. MAPS Alumni @willboase graduated in 2022, in his thesis arguing that digital circulation was transforming photography’s role in the world. In response, MAPS initiated the Networked Audience research program, which set out to explore how and where photographs travel online, and how these journeys transform them, their messages, the people they encounter, and their relationship to other types of imagery, including AI generated ones. The research program was led by Will and MAPS senior lecturer @andreastultiens .  Over the course of its two-year duration, the program resulted in a host of moments of engagement with interested students, academics, and personal connections. Outcomes include essays, seminars, websites, and toolkits. And today another moment of engagement is launched into the world: a thematic online series published with Trigger, as a special edition. The edition features nine essay themed around the digital circulation of images and the shifting relationships between makers and audiences. The publication unfolds in two formats: an online issue and a custom Telegram edition, testing how images—and their meanings—transform across platforms.
