3 myths and truths about purple shampoo 💜

❌ That it will make your hair blonder.

✅ Purple shampoo will not lighten your blonde but it will cancel out some warmth.

❌ It will correct brassy/orange tones

✅ the pigment in purple shampoo is designed to cancel out yellow not orange. A blue pigmented shampoo is more suitable for someone that has darker hair that naturally pulls more orange.

❌ You should use purple shampoo super often to maintain your blonde between appointments.

✅ This is a quick way for you to have dry dull looking blonde. I have had clients go crazy with the purple shampoo and then come in for the next appointment wondering how their blonde looks darker! You have to have a little warmth to maintain a bright looking blonde. This doesn’t mean you have to be yellow or brassy!

✨ I want to also point out that all purple shampoos are formulated differently and some may be more intense than others so always ask your stylist what they recommend.

I usually advise my clients to use purple shampoo (IF needed) a 2-3 times a month max depending on how often they wash and which shampoo they are using. If that client wants to stay super icy or cool toned I would rather them come in for a toner between visits!

Bottom line is that purple shampoo is great when used responsibly! Make sure you always chat with your stylist about how often you should be using it for your desired look!
