What cover? You have me confused with a poet who didn't check with his publisher before revealing the cover of his book (coming out July 2027) 😘

𝐍𝐄𝐖 @asian.cha 𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖 | Kai Hang Cheang reviews Mai-Linh Hong’s 𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝐷𝑟𝑖𝑓𝑡 (Trio House Press, 2026).

/ Drift is both the collection’s operating reality and its governing metaphor. In geology, “drift” also refers to the clay, silt, and rock that glaciers carry and deposit, a process accelerated by melting glaciers in the age of climate change. More specifically, continental drift, the phenomenon from which Hong’s collection takes its name, is as old as the continents themselves, though the idea has a shorter history. Observing that the east coast of South America appears to fit against the west coast of Africa, mapmakers and naturalists, from Abraham Ortelius in the sixteenth century to Alexander von Humboldt in the early nineteenth century, wondered whether the lands bordering the Atlantic had once formed a single landmass. In 1912, the German meteorologist Alfred Wegener developed this conjecture into the theory of continental drift, which was vindicated half a century later by plate tectonics. Scientists now estimate that tectonic plates move a few centimetres per year. At that rate, as Hillman (whom Hong cites) puts it, “LA will dwell beside San Francisco eventually”. /

So excited and honored to share with you Issue #5 of Il Detonatore Zine! An Italian Zine focusing on poems, stories, graphics, and translations. And speaking of translations (!) I was fortunate enough to have my poem, “I Write You with the Intention of Amendment,” translated into Italian by @matteofais81 for his lovely series, Meet an American Poet. I cannot express my joy or gratitude enough! Thank you @matteofais81 My Nonno Macarelli would be proud 🥲 …and I’m in great company, too! Here’s looking at you @kategaskin

Thanks to Michael Mercurio for curating the “What The Universe Is” series and for hosting on October 13 the incredible pairing of Joan Kwon Glass (Daughter of Three Gone Kingdoms, Perugia Press) and Leila Fajami (Daughter of Salt, Trio House Press) - which we featured in Perugia’s April BIWOC Poet Spotlight. Thanks also to Kayla Torres for supporting these collections and for uplifting poets and poetry generally. And thanks most of all to the two readers, Joan and Leila, for sharing their stellar work with us. Gratitude to Dorinda Wegener for shining light on my book Singing from the Deep End (@cavankerrypress) as well as on @perugiapress and its poets in this feature in the latest newsletter from Cleaver, Philadelphia’s international literary magazine. Dorinda is an incredible poet, and her book Four Fields (@triohousepress) is a symphony of mad skillz that I don’t have and that I admire deeply - and isn’t that one of the amazing things about poetry, and art? The different ways we all make what we make and how we can love and learn from things that are not like what we’d make at all? Her book astonished me, in the best way. Dorinda is also just an awesome literary citizen (I mean, obviously - see post). Thank you, @dorinda.wegener.poet and @cleavermagazine! 💞📖🙏
