Saving just one horse will not change the world….but surely it will change the world…for that one horse! Venmo Triple8ranch

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The reality of adopting a horse with a past you know nothing about.

Stetson was recently diagnosed with severe arthritis in his right pastern, and with that comes a whole new plan for his care. Yearly injections, daily medication, intentional movement and warm-ups, ice wraps, and constantly adjusting our rides based on how he’s feeling.

It was an unexpected diagnosis and a pretty significant financial hit. But I would do it ten times over for this horse.

And I think this is something people need to understand when it comes to rescuing or buying horses at auction. You don’t know their history. You don’t know what they’ve been through, what injuries they’ve sustained, or what problems might show up down the road. And when they do, that doesn’t mean they’re suddenly any less deserving of a good life.

I’m just grateful Stetson ended up with me. I don’t need him to compete, work, or prove anything. I just want a horse to love, take on trail rides when he’s feeling good, and have as part of our family for the rest of his life.

His diagnosis changes some things, but it doesn’t change what he means to me.

These horses deserve more than a second chance that’s conditional on them being healthy, rideable, or useful.

Stetson has a home for life. And I’d choose him all over again. 🤎

Fire prep at the barn today. 🔥🐴

With the potential for fires in our area, we spent the day getting the ranch and horses as prepared as possible.

@triple8ranch put together an entire color-coded evacuation system for our horses:
🔴 Red tape: Horses that are more difficult to load and need to go on the first trip.
🟡 Yellow tape: Horses that load easily and can go on a second trip.
⚪️ White Tape: Horses that could be ridden out if needed

We also painted on each horse’s name and emergency contact information, in case we ever get separated during an evacuation.

Beyond that, we filled extra water, prepped hoses, cleared flammable materials, checked fire extinguishers, got trailers ready, and coordinated who would be available to help if needed.

It’s a lot to think about when you have this many animals depending on you, but we have a really good team of people who show up and get things done.

Hoping none of these preparations are ever needed, but grateful to know we’re as ready as we can be.

Stay safe out there, Topanga. 🤎

After a year of hosting these community gatherings, @elo_carvalho and @nicksharp.life are excited to welcome back familiar faces and meet new ones along the way every month.

As we continue to explore what this program can become, we’re taking a moment to reflect on what it’s already meant to the people who have joined us.

Here’s a little of what our community has been saying after navigating change, exploring relationships, and discovering new awareness alongside the horses at @oldcanyonstables

Vincent smoulders while Leo emotes. These two were rescued together and still have the closeness.

Leo was rescued by @triple8ranch, his spirit totally broken and a skin condition all over his body. He is now safe at @oldcanyonstables , fully loved and recovering. While visiting the ranch, I played music for him every day. He started out shy and unsure but you can see throughout just how much it lifted his spirits. I’m so glad I could do that for him ❤️ thank you @triple8ranch @oldcanyonstables! #equinewellness #musicwellness #musictherapy #horserescue #horsesofinstagram

Our first Community Cowgirl Night 🤎🐴✨

THANK YOU to everyone who came out, donated, and made our first night such an amazing turnout. We had SO much fun — which is exactly the point.

We’re not just fundraising around here… we’re FUN-raising for our rescues. 🤠

The more fun we have, the more funds we raise, and the more horses we can rescue. Old Canyon Stables, @triple8ranch & our little Leo are so grateful for every one of you. 🤎

And thank you to @cameron_shelton for being our honorary cowboy 😂 Cowboys are always welcome — we hope a few more show up next time!

First of many. 🐴✨

Hey ladies (and fellas), we are having a fun-draising for our rescues this Friday night. Super casual however this is an RSVP only event. Just some time connecting to horses, friends (new and old) and ourselves.

We’re back at @oldcanyonstables in Topanga for another afternoon with the herd on 9/19.

We’ll spend time exploring relational horsemanship, presence, communication, boundaries and what becomes possible when we step out of our usual ways of relating. No horse experience is necessary, only a willingness to show up and get curious.

And next week, we’re excited to announce something new.

@nicksharp.life will be opening a limited number of deeper equine assisted experiences with the rescue herd. These offerings will include individual work, small groups and more immersive experiences designed to move beyond the traditional therapy room and into relationship with horses, land and one another.

More soon.
