Warmth, friendship, new friends, and new experiences…

My great-grandfather once came to China and Hong Kong in 1970 to deliver cattle.

And now, many years later, I had the chance to visit China and Hong Kong myself, carrying love from Denpasar and sharing it with all the wonderful people I met along the way.

Thank you so much for everything.
I already miss you all.

Let’s do it all again someday. 🤜🏼🤛🏼❤️

Yeah, let’s talk about that iconic flute, the motif that captured the imagination of a generation of hardcore fans.

Chinese fans’ tongue-in-cheek nickname for Jem, “笛王”(“flute king”), captures what makes Speed’s performances so timeless; their willingness to show emotional vulnerability and seek genuine connection, breaking the tired stereotype of“tough guy hardcore” bands.

Whether it’s speaking in your second language to a crowd of 500 fans, anecdotes of struggling with identity as a youth, or starting your set with a fucking flute solo, Speed’s radical honesty and tenderness ironically make their riffs hit so much harder and set them apart as an iconic band.
