Flew to Toronto for a business meeting. Got into a few fights with some strangers, ate Michelin-star Chinese food, and got a little better at breaking people’s legs.

Pretty sure that’s how most business trips work.

JIU JITSU IS NOT ABOUT JIU JITSU

One weekend. A lot of different sides of Jiu Jitsu.

Coach Alan spent last weekend competing at IBJJF Masters Worlds, then switched roles to coach Zach at Jiu Jitsu Con Kids.

From there, it was off to Milwaukee for the Gentle Art Lifestyle Summer Camp, because no matter how long you’ve been doing jiu jitsu, there is always more to learn.

While there, Alan received his second stripe on his brown belt from his best friend, @joshuaj_bjj

Competitor.

Coach.

Student.

Friend.

And somewhere in between all of that, he got to spend time with friends from all over the world. People he probably never would have known if it weren’t for Jiu Jitsu.

The medals, belts and stripes are part of it.

But once again…

Jiu Jitsu is not about Jiu Jitsu.

*Opportunity! Over the last couple weeks a few people have had to cancel their travel to our sold out camp!
*
It is only a week away but if you would like to join us next week we can still make it happen.
*
Go to gentle art lifestyle page and sign up on the waiting list or DM me.
*
This camp is going to be Tres Bien'! (IDK if that spelling is right and I am trying to remember high school French.)

JIU JITSU IS NOT ABOUT JIU JITSU

Most people see Coach Alan teaching class and coaching at competitions.

What they don’t always see or know about is the journey that got him here.

From training in 14 countries, to climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, to helping build the incredible community we have at Karma Jiu Jitsu; Alan’s story has always been about saying YES to adventure, friendship, and personal growth. His philosophy is simple: collect experiences, make new friends, and become a little better every day.

We’re incredibly proud to see him featured as a Featured Globetrotter by BJJ Globetrotters. @bjjglobetrotters 🌎🥋

The article dives into his travels, his mindset, and why Jiu Jitsu has become so much more than a sport.

Grab a coffee and give it a read, you might just be inspired to say “yes” to your next adventure.
