Introducing Tristan Jon @tristan__jon a Belgian painter based in Paris and featured on the @halfofvenus gallery. ‘I am a Belgian artist based in Paris. I studied Art History and Fine Arts before moving to Paris, where I have continued to develop my practice through a range of studios, exhibitions and residency opportunities. My work has also been shortlisted for the Prix AMMA Sorbonne price in 2024 and Artistic Rezo price in 2025. In my practice, I explore ambiguity and blurred boundaries. I am interested in what resists clear definition: moments of tension, unstable perceptions, and the spaces that exist between opposing ideas. Painting allows me to give form to these areas of uncertainty.’

3 FILMS PICKED BY @tristan__jon

2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (Stanley Kubrick, 1968)

Watching this film for the first time was like my first orgasm. It was a unique experience, one that can never be lived in quite the same way again. It is a monumental work about humanity, yet one that made me feel incredibly small. What I took away from it was a profound sense of humility.

TENUE DE SOIRÉE (Bertrand Blier, 1986)

The characters are constantly transforming. I was fascinated by the idea that nothing is fixed or clearly defined. Anything can happen, and the element of surprise comes through an inner process that creates ambiguity. That feeling lies at the heart of my work.

ALIEN (Ridley Scott, 1979)

I am fascinated by the atmosphere of something radically foreign to humanity. The film creates a universe entirely of its own, one that feels like an unmistakable signature. To me, the minimalism of its direction is also what makes it such a pure work of art.

Interview with belgian painter @tristan__jon !

“For me, pictorial language is fundamental. It is where everything happens. In my paintings, technique and subject become inseparable, working together to create a cathartic experience. One could even say that they depend entirely on one another. It is also a method that took me years to develop, through my brushes but above all through gesture. Who knows what it will become? That is one of the greatest joys of being a painter: an immeasurable freedom to evolve.”

Tristan Jon/Artistes en lumière
@tristan__jon
