Happy birthday 🎉 to my dear husband Steve! You’re my life raft keeping me steady; my partner in the adventure of life. So glad to spend this special day with you in Palermo, at the end of this epic Italy and Sicily trip! These are some of my favorite moments from Palermo, Taormina, Rome and the Via Francigena hike.

Past the halfway mark of this extraordinary Italian vacation and also the halfway point of our walk along a piece of Italy’s ancient Via Francigena with my husband and four of his wonderful Wednesday walking buddies Jef, Luis, Mike and Fred.

We started in the tiny hilltop village of Gallina and made our way to beautiful Bolsena, averaging a solid 13 miles a day over the three days. The route was everything we hoped for — rolling Tuscan countryside, quiet paths through vineyards and olive groves, medieval villages that look like they haven’t changed in centuries, and the most stunning views of Lake Bolsena waiting for us at the end.

Today we are off to Montefiascone and Viterbo!

Four and a half days in Rome: our favorite spots: the Pantheon, the Forum, the Colosseum, Largo Argentina, the Vatican crypts at St Peter’s Basilica. Other spots in these photos include Basilica de St Maria Meggiore, Palatine Hill, Vatican Hall of Maps, Vatican Scala Regia, St Peter’s Square for papal address, Piazza de Spagna, Vittoriano, Trevi Fountain ⛲️. Mostly I soaked in all the ruins, enjoying the juxtaposition of ancient and modern on every piazza.

💭Life update: Steve joined the Burbank Noon Rotary Club today.
👏 I’m very excited.
🤲 He’s always been all about “service above self” so it’s a natural fit for him.
✅ I wrote his letter of recommendation (obviously I’m a big fan)
