Trolltunga, or “Troll’s Tongue,” is a dramatic cliff rising 2,300 ft (700 m) above Lake Ringedalsvatnet in Vestland, Norway.

The hike to Trolltunga is roughly 12–17 miles (20–28 km), depending on your starting point, and is considered very challenging, so naturally, I was a little intimidated by everything I read online.

How hard is hiking Trolltunga?
I hiked Trolltunga at 17 weeks pregnant in August 2025, starting from P3—the easier starting point with no switchbacks. My husband and I completed the hike in 7 hours and 15 minutes, including a ~30-minute wait for our turn at the famous Trolltunga photo.

By the end, we had logged 33,500 steps.

Was it challenging? It was long. But I found it much more manageable than I expected based on the reviews I had read beforehand. Starting from P3 made a big difference for us, and going prepared made the long day much more enjoyable.

And, of course, no long hike is complete without a good fueling strategy. 🥾

Eva’s guide to healing a broken toe part 1:
1) buy a plane ticket to Norway 🇳🇴
2) Hike 1,000 miles with your friends and check off the most beautiful hike on your bucket list
3)Do pushups on the cliff’s edge, and have your hand slip from underneath you and hit your chin on the rock only to find yourself looking straight down into a deep void 👀

Don’t worry- more to come!

Trolltunga😍⛰️🏞
Outdoor physical activity brings a unique kind of joy—it grounds us, resets our minds, and rekindles a raw connection to the world around us. In Norway, this feeling is deeply rooted in the concept of å oppleve naturen på nærhold—experiencing nature up close. Moving through open landscapes, breathing crisp air, and pushing your body outdoors shifts your perspective from daily stresses to pure presence, leaving you energised, balanced, and deeply alive.
