It's really fun when a horse's personality comes through during a photo session and this was certainly the case when we did Khane and Sharon's first "Mikey photo shoot".

While Jim, Shauna and the rest of the Gambel Oaks Equestrian crew are getting settled in and warmed up at AHA Nationals in Tulsa, we turned the arena into an equine photo studio.

Mike first experimented with using studio lighting like this during the winters we spent at WGA when we wanted to get great photos of students and horses despite the weather.

While it takes a bit of time and patience to get the lights all set up and dialed in we find it a super way to get unique beautiful photos.

Khane was a very good model, posing and reacting perfectly between the two remote firing strobes!

Wound up our day chasing waves and color at Shark Harbor on the west side of Catalina. It's going to take Mike a LONG time to cull his images lol!

Mike and I were lucky enough to have had an Hucklebey Berry+/ daughter to train, a fantastic mare named Bey Cali+.

The fact that Mike and I have such amazing memories of Cali is the reason we decided to log into the recent Arabian Horse Times Facebook Live auction of a Hucklebey Berry+/ breeding donated by Empress Arabians to benefit the AEPA and the AHDF. There was quite a bit of buzz in the Arabian community as a breeding to Hucklebey Berry had not been available for over 15 years. What happened next? Check out our blog post Of Legends and Legacies on our website for a link to the amazing auction action featuring commentary by Tim Shea!
