A year ago this weekend, I went to Los Angeles for the first time for a fan panel at the LA Drama Vertical Market. I had no idea I was walking into the second biggest plot twist of my life. (Our fourth & last child…my only daughter…surprising us with her sweet presence still holds first place. Sorry, LA…you’ll never beat her.) Since then, I’ve flown back and forth to LA so many times I need to check my calendar before giving you a number. (Thank you Delta and your wonderful Biscoff cookies). I even had a furnished apartment there for six months! I still have a storage unit filled with bedding and clothes and lamps (proper interior lighting is one of my obsessions) waiting to be used again. That feels very optimistic and financially questionable in equal measure but I am known by all who love me for two things: blind idealism and excessive spending. But when I look at these photos, what overwhelms most me is THE PEOPLE. People who welcomed me when I was brand new to this world of entertainment. People who share what they know, believe in what I was trying to build, make me laugh, let me tease them, and become my friends. I had no idea how many people from that weekend would become such an important part of my life. (And fish tacos on the beach…ya…those too.) I was also pulled on stage at the first Vertical Shorts Festival, met Uros, and had an experience that was somehow inspiring, intimate, and spectacularly embarrassing. And people still liked me afterward! A miracle! Uros has become such a source of inspiration as I’ve watched him develop such a strong foundation. Building alongside people like him and Dana…watching them go after what they want, be bold and tenacious…it’s addicting! There’s been so much you haven’t seen this year: the obsessive thought, the CHATGPT voice dumps, my notes app filled to the brim, the PRAYER, the doubt, the work, and the delusionally joyful distress of trying to figure out my niche in this industry. Looking back, I’m in awe of my path to this point. The way so many seemingly unrelated pieces of my life have found a place here. All that once seemed unrelated—my degrees in cultural studies & psychology, my fascination with

Lisa is a soft, bookish lead who feels emotionally grounded, and her inner conflict drives the story forward. Anna plays her with warmth and vulnerability, making Lisa easy to root for even when she’s trapped in morally messy choices. Tim brings a quiet intensity to Maxwell. Brooding, intelligent, and emotionally guarded without ever feeling cold. You really feel the emotional hurt he’s been through. The chemistry between Lisa and Maxwell builds slowly, making it feel more beautiful and earned. It works perfectly for a story driven by restraint, longing, and emotional tension rather than instant fireworks. Giselle is the standout antagonist. Sharp, manipulative, and unapologetically power hungry. Dorothy is excellent here, deliciously over the top in a way I love, creating constant pressure and moral tension. Tony (@jessechasekatz), Maxwell’s agent, is exactly the kind of agent you’d expect in this world. Ambitious, slippery, and clearly fascinated by Giselle, he willingly goes along with her schemes because he wants her and wants to be with her. It’s a romance built on longing, hidden motives, and slow emotional unraveling, and it fully commits to that tone. So this is hard to put into words but I'll do my best. I've been a creative for my entire life but I've yet to ever win anything in any avenue of my creativity. Not that merit comes from the outside when it comes to art but I'll be dawned if it doesn't feel good. Continuing to work my way backward through some of the milestones I never got the chance to share properly… Nearly a year ago, @tailscaliforniafilm was accepted into the @simifilmfest , and the festival began with an incredible opening-night celebration. 🎬✨ The evening included a limo shuttle for arrivals, red-carpet photos , and a welcoming ceremony recognizing each of the participating films and award nominees. Our Tails California team arrived in style, and it was so much fun getting dressed up, reuniting with everyone, and kicking off the festival together. We also mingled with the cast and crew from @aprivateinvestigationfilm which was so much fun! 🥂🎥 A huge thank you to @composerjoe and @katiegaribaldi for once again creating such a welcoming celebration of independent film, and to my co-writer/co-producer @ryanawiller and our wonderful cast and team @nelsontynes_ @jensyboy @erikrolandorozet for showing up and representing Tails California so beautifully.
