Well, it is MAY 15th!!!! The day I officially became an Alumna of @spelman_college !!!! Every year I have to go to YouTube and watch my FOREVER FIRST LADY @michelleobama (@michelleobama44 ) Commencement Address to my class, Class of 2011!!! Until today I never knew that the camera cut to me in the audience. Excuse the commentary of my amens and uh huh’s but I was in agreement in 2011 and definitely in agreement 9 years later. I cannot believe I will be celebrating 10 years from 350 @spelmanlane next year. Life beyond those infamous gates brought about many life lessons, and I’m proud to say that I’ve learned a lot. The first four years I had the job of MY LIFE!!! I was working at @ninaholidayent in Atlanta. Co-founded by @cassigers and @terrijvaughn. I remember the first check I received, was during my senior year of college I worked on Soul Train 2011, it was for $1000. I’ll never forget the phone conversation I had with Cas, she thanked me for all I did the night of that award show (that’s another post for another day) and told me, trust the checks will get bigger. What Cas didn’t know was that it was my first check ever! My parents never allowed me nor my siblings to work in high school and my dad didn’t want me working while in college. So I was grateful for that check. The checks did get bigger, but it was NEVER about the money. My goal senior year was to find a small production company where I could learn the entertainment business and God blessed me with just that! I have to credit my lil sis @zuriadele for telling me about Terri’s company and that I should email and apply there for an internship! That was the 2nd greatest decision of my life. The first being to apply to attend Spelman (my dream college). I learned SO MUCH working at Nina Holiday that was my grad school. I often used to joke and say I’m going to make a degree from Nina Holiday University. If you take a listen at First Lady Obama’s speech, she talked about never doubt and second guess yourself. There were plenty of nights and mornings spent in my bathroom (that’s where I talked to God) asking, Lord am I moving too soon? What is it?? **Running out of room I’ll continue in a video post.**

#WCW This week, my Women Crush Wednesday goes out to my big Spelman Sisters in the Drama and Dance Department, Class of 2010 (BKA Class of Dimes)! This week they would have celebrated their 10 year reunion from our ILLUSTRIOUS ALMA MATER @spelman_college. We would have participated in Class Day on Friday, welcoming the Class of 2020 into the land of Alumnae-hood by finally walking under the infamous arch celebrating their first graduation activity in preparation for Sunday’s Commencement Ceremony. All of my Spelman sisters in this class is thriving in front of and behind the camera. I’m so proud to be their little sister. Out of the three classes before me, I believe I’m the closest to this group. They really set the example of looking out for their sisters. This post I’m celebrating all of 2010. The pics in this post were taken at our Annual Ruby Awards (which are like the Golden Globes meet the Tony Awards on a collegiate level). I won Outstanding Stage Manager in 2010 having Stage Managed two plays of the season that featured the class of 2010. Check back tomorrow for my Throwback Thursday post for another dedication. #UndauntedByTheFight #TheLegacyContinues #SpelmanCollege #Classof2010 #OhGodForeverBindOurHeartsToThine💙🌻

I’m so glad I chose @spelman_college !!! That was my FIRST and ONLY choice. Yes I applied to Brenau and Clark and received full scholarships to both institutions, I’m so grateful my daddy allowed me to go to Spelman. He paid for my tuition out of pocket and I’m grateful I don’t have any student loan debt. Cannot wait to watch #Becoming on @netflix 💙🌻 Can’t believe I will be celebrating 10 years as an alumna in 2021!!!! #SPELMANTHYNAMEWEPRAISE💁🏾‍♀️#UNDAUNTEDBYTHEFIGHT #THELEGACYCONTINUES

You know what, I cannot wait to have children and grandchildren. My FOREVER PRESIDENT AND FIRST LADY ALWAYS DOING THINGS FOR THE CULTURE!!!! Class of 2020 show me your walk, HBCU EDITION!!! Cmon now! @nykirajanae @kennedyrue y’all better show your walk. Lol. 💙 I will never forget my commencement ceremony where Phylicia Rashad and @therealdebbieallen became my honorary Spelman Sisters. It was because of the Cosby Show and A Different World my eyes were set on Spelman. Not to mention my oldest Godsister is an alumna and a part of the class of ‘1988. But then to have our First Lady @michelleobama to address my senior class becoming an honorary Spelman sister as well, was the icing on the cake or cherry on top of the sundae. I’m grateful my very first election I voted for the FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN PRESIDENT!!! Two terms!!! And he’s still doing philanthropic work. Much Love Uncle Barry!!! 💙🌻 keep representing and making us PROUD!!! I’m also excited my partner and I created a show @friendshipuniversity depicting a slice of life at an HBCU!!!! Coming soon June 2020! 💜💛🌻

I cannot believe my little song bird is 10 years old today! The top two pics were taken at her 2nd birthday party. When I first met Brooklyn, she was a couple of months old during the time I was interning for her mom @cassigers at The Diamond Awards at Greater Travelers Rest (now House of Hope Atlanta). Then I moved on to work for Nina Holiday Ent. and from time to time would braid Brooklyn’s hair and keep her and her big brother King. I miss them so much!!!! The bottom pic was taken October 2013, Brooklyn and King went to church with me at Elizabeth Baptist and we took a pic with my sis @theatricalpace. Later in the car, she and King were singing “No One Else” by Smokie Norful. We had our own Lil Jam session. I wonder if Brooklyn is still singing. 🎉🎉🎉Happy Birthday Brooklyn!!!! Enjoy your day!”💜💛🌻🎉🎉🎉

🎉🎉🎉SINGING in my Stevie Wonder voice: “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! HAAAAAAAAPPPPPYYYYY BIIIIIRRRRRTTTTTHHHHDDDDAAAAYYYYY, Happy Biiirrrrrrtthhhday-aye!!!” Happy Birthday to my Big Spelman Sis @seauxtherndoc and her lil Bro/my Morehouse bro @mtt.klly!!!! Love you guys to def!!! Wish we were in the same city to celebrate. Miss you so much Katerri-Berry!!! Thank you so much for being my right hand and someone I could call on when I need someone to talk to. When I unplug, there’s three people besides my parents I respond to via text messages, that’s @lydiapace @cbyrd67 and Katerri. If I don’t respond to them, then it must be something SERIOUS!!! There were times this past year where I did not respond and I saw the text, heard the phone ring, listened to the voice mails. But I really had to focus on rediscovering my purpose and my relationship with God. One thing I did pray on New Year’s Eve 2019 was for God to mend and strengthen those friendships where he see fit. I must admit he went above and beyond. I’m so grateful for my sisters. The crazy thing is they are all Taurus’ and celebrated a birthday this week. God knew I needed those Taurus’ to balance out this Libra. 👊🏾💙🌻 ♎️♉️

🎉🎉🎉WISHING MY BIG SISTER @lydiapace A HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I pray that God continue to BLESS YOU that you may not have room enough to receive it. She may be the baby sis in her immediate family but she’s the BEST BIG Spelman sis ever! 💁🏾‍♀️💙🌻Okay, one of... because I have several best big Spelman Sisters. Lyd, in these past 7 years you have been not only a great friend and sister, you really were like a life coach or therapist. Whenever I was going through something I could text you and you knew when the situation required a reply back via text or if you needed to call and talk me through things. For that I am grateful. I will never forget when you told me and @seauxtherndoc that you’ve always dreamed of going to Spelman when we went to Houston’s on Founders Day 2015. We told you to apply, and when you get that blue envelope in the mail, YOU KNOW you would have been accepted. Over that summer I saw where you were accepted and I just knew I had to welcome you to Spelman so I volunteered for the History and Traditions breakout session and afterwards we went back to our favorite spot, Houston’s!!! My biggest regret was not being able to attend your class day and welcome you into Alumnae-hood at Spelman. Now that you’ve walked under the infamous arch, the next time we’re on campus together we can walk under it together!!!...okay, I’m not going to reminisce too much on here, but again Happy Birthday sis’ enjoy your day and when you come down this summer (if the quarantine is lifted) we can go to your favorite spot here. In my Donna Goodau voice, “Lydia I luv ya, P.O.P hold it down!” 💙🌻
