From the Luvualu Archives: “Sinking Ship”

I don’t remember when I became fascinated with the 1991 sinking of the cruise ship Oceanos, off Southern Africa’s eastern coast. But I understand it now as an allegory for humanity’s demise and its collision with something inevitable. Some may call it hope or the resistance from revolution. Regardless, destruction is a component of resistance and I guess I thought there was beauty in that. And no matter how we sink, whether in water or in stone, nature always remains.

It is with extreme urgency and a call to action that Capsules presents a fundraiser in support of @gabusittahchildrensfund in collaboration with @ibrahim.abusitta opening next Thursday, April 23rd, from 6pm to 8pm. Featuring artists:

The exhibition will run until May 19th, with proceeds towards the fund which manages immediate and ongoing emergency conflict medicine for children between Gaza and Beirut, led by Dr Ghassan Abu Sittah. Many Palestinian children targeted by Israeli troops have had to be relocated to Beirut hospitals and emergency care centres, now being bombed by Israel as well. Dr Ghassan works on the frontlines of this massacre, to save and care for children who in many cases have been orphaned in attacks.

About the fund:

“This Fund is dedicated to the children of Gaza & Lebanon: providing medical attention to the children who need it the most and helping to relieve the medical sector.

The first initiative for the Fund, under the expert guidance of Dr. Ghassan Abu Sittah, is the transportation of critically injured children with their caretakers from Palestine to Lebanon, where they can receive the best possible medical, psychological, and social care, before returning home to Palestine where they will continue their recovery. By treating the children in Lebanon, we not only offer them exceptional care and access to top medical advances, but also help to relieve the medical sector in Gaza & The Occupied Territories.”
