POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I got suspended for holding a girl’s hand.
Then I joined the Army.

Queer, brown, immigrant kid.
That combo didn’t go over too well in early 2000s high school.
I got pulled into the principal’s office for PDA.
But it wasn’t the kiss that got me suspended.
It was the fact she was a girl.

My dad didn’t say much.
But when he showed up, he stood next to me—stone still, quiet, unmoving.
That silence felt like armor.

Fast forward:
I’m still buzzing from Club Orion, strobe lights still in my veins.
ASVAB test.
Scantron sheets.
My score was high—high enough to choose anything.

But my green card said otherwise.
Uncle Sam picked for me: 92G, Food Service.

That’s how it started.
Not with a flag. Not with a mission.
With bass drops, government forms, and a girl’s hand that cost me everything and gave me even more.

🖊️ This story—and all the others that shaped me—is part of my memoir in progress.

This isn’t a military story.
It’s a becoming story.

9 months alcohol-free.

What started as a protocol for my stem cell treatment turned into… an unexpected love affair with clarity.

I used to think I needed to get a little wrecked to celebrate.
But these last 9 months? I’ve had so many reasons to celebrate—and not once have I needed to be drunk to feel it.
Turns out presence is pretty intoxicating on its own. (And no hangover.)

The biggest shift?
Learning to stay with the good.
Not rush to heighten it. Not spike the dopamine.
Just let it land.

That kind of nervous system regulation?
Now that’s the real flex.

This carousel is a reel of what it looks like to honor joy, properly. To feel wins in real time. To not escape the good stuff just because we don’t know how to sit in it.

✨ If you’ve been looking for a sign to slow down, zoom out, or rethink what celebration has to look like—consider this it.

And while we’re here—
Take a second to look back on your own past 9 months.
📸 What have you walked through, created, survived, or reclaimed?
Because that deserves a full-bodied, present-as-hell celebration.

Drop a win below. 👇

Can you run all the lights?
If you can, baby boy, then we can go all night

Everything happens for you.

The good, the bad, and the fugly. It’s all part of God’s plan and honestly, I wouldn’t change a single thing.

The gift of realizing that the shadows and dark times are there to strengthen you in a way that forces you to rise above, is something I will not take for granted.

Everything is just as it should be, even in those moments I have no fucking idea what’s going on.

Tell me your most ridiculous “WTF, Universe” moment that ended up being divine timing in disguise.

Sam

I am learning to be at peace with who I am now; and I am excited about who I have the potential to be. 💛
