Red light is one of my favourite daily rituals, and it all comes down to what’s happening inside your cells. ♥️

It’s called photobiomodulation. Specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light are absorbed by your mitochondria, the little powerhouses in your cells. That light helps them produce more ATP, the energy your cells run on. More cellular energy means your body has more to put into repair, renewal and recovery.

Here are some pictures taken at my first R+D event and at this year's The Big Thing, Llandudno, where I was given the opportunity, by @immersivearts_uk and @crossoverlabs to showcase many of the prototypes I crafted for my immersive Arts UK Explore project. (Thank you ❤️🙏)

Big thanks also to @_hivecafe_ @thesandwichco_ for providing the paper used in the mix of my paper clay prototypes.

All of the pieces in these pics were made using #non‑toxic, #biodegradable #paper-clay.

I created bone‑conduction speaker helmets and biomorphic chairs that resonate sound, custom light‑shade casings, and sculptural pieces including a tree and a brain, each one formed from recycled paper clay.

Incredible transformation 😍

I used to go straight into pilates. Now, I like to Strat with Red Light first 🔴
Morning sessions used to mean starting stiff, cold and taking half the class to actually feel warmed up.

Did you know red light therapy goes so much deeper than reducing wrinkles? ♥️

With over 10,000 clinical studies behind red light therapy, research has explored its effects across everything from nervous system regulation to inflammation, circulation, muscle recovery, joint pain, collagen, and melatonin production.

Of course for me nervous system regulation is the most important. But how does it actually help? Red and near-infrared light supports the mitochondria in our cells, helping them produce energy. This can support the neurons involved in regulating mood and stress, while improving blood flow and reducing neuroinflammation.

At 6 months postpartum, I honestly thought I was feeling tired because I’m a sleep-deprived new mum (which of course, is a huge part of it) but I recently learned that there’s another piece of the puzzle that I hadn’t heard much about.

During pregnancy & birth, your body works incredibly hard, even your cells are using huge amounts of energy.

Our cells create energy using something called ATP (think of it like your body’s tiny rechargeable battery). After pregnancy, your body is still recovering & supporting that recovery takes time.

That’s why I’ve started putting my @trysolis red light on while I practice yoga in the evening.

Research suggests red light may support mitochondrial function & ATP production, so I was intrigued by the idea of supporting my body on a cellular level while also giving myself a chance to slow down & move at the end of the day.

It’s not a magical postpartum fix, of course recovery still needs sleep, nourishing food, rest & support. But I’ve really been really enjoying this simple ritual & the way it’s become part of my evening routine now.

Postpartum recovery isn’t just about what we can see on the outside, there’s so much happening beneath the surface too! ❤️
