Women. Art. Perspectives. A look at the women shaping contemporary art.

This is just a small selection of inspiring female artists who work with us or regularly catch our attention and enrich our perspective on art. There are, of course, many more.

Feel free to tell us which women artists you admire and who we should feature here in the near future.

The best homes don’t follow every rule. They mix, evolve, and get a little weird along the way. 🤎

Save this for the next time you’re second guessing something you love.

I'll confess, I don't know a great deal about either this painting or the artist behind it. Not for lack of trying—the gallery I acquired it from seemed to treat information and good service as a rare and precious commodity. Responses were sporadic, details even rarer, and the whole process felt a little like an endurance sport.
And yet, none of that mattered. I loved the painting from the moment I saw it and was determined to bring it home, no matter how many hurdles were placed in my path.

Perhaps that's the best compliment I can pay it. A work so magnetic that it makes you happily forgive all the administrative gymnastics. I adore the freedom of Tschiegg's expression and the quiet confidence of the image. It doesn't ask for attention—it simply steals it.

There isn't a huge amount written about Anne-Sophie Tschiegg @tschiegg66, which somehow feels perfectly fitting. The French artist describes herself as someone who simply wanted "to paint, read, love and be amused," and that quiet sense of freedom flows through everything she creates.

Rather than painting the world as it is, Tschiegg invents worlds of her own. Animals, people and strange symbols become characters in stories that feel both playful and mysterious. Her paintings often balance humour with something much deeper, exploring ideas of identity, power, instinct and transformation without ever telling you exactly what to think.

That is why Cheval Premier fascinated me. Horses have long symbolised freedom, strength and untamed instinct, but in Tschiegg's universe they seem to become something more—a guide, a metaphor, perhaps even a reflection of ourselves. She leaves just enough unsaid for our own imagination to finish the story.
I think that's what makes her work so compelling. She trusts the viewer. Instead of giving us answers, she gives us space to wonder. Every person who stands before one of her paintings will discover a slightly different meaning, making each work feel deeply personal to the person who lives with it.

Only this weekend still on view at Verduyn Gallery: As She Is by Tschiegg

For me, this is one of the most emotionally powerful paintings I have ever encountered.
A work that feels both intimate and unsettling — filled with tenderness, memory, fragility and silence. The painting moves between dream and reality, between vulnerability and human connection, revealing layer after layer the longer you stand before it.

The exhibition As She Is brings together works that speak about the body, identity, emotional landscapes and the complexity of being human, through the singular visual language of Tschiegg.

Only on view this weekend at Verduyn Gallery
Today open from 2–6 pm
