Thank you to everyone who joined us last night at the CAC for The Story Continues: A Conversation with Ron Bechet, Ayo Scott, and Annie Moran.

We’re grateful to our artists, @cacnola , and @tsouorg for a meaningful conversation centered on community, creativity, and heritage in New Orleans.

Carry Us Home 🎥🎬 yesterday’s BTS with @tsouorg @johnscottcenter @cacnola ✨

None of us arrived here on our own.

Guided by the quiet pulse of Sankofa and the enduring grace of my grandmothers, Carry Us Home is a monument to the hands that shaped our path. It is a tribute to the legacy of those who reached back for us, and an urgent vow to reach forward for the generations yet to come.
Lately, this creative journey has asked something softer of me: learning how to shape beauty while honoring rest. It has been a sacred season of unearthing the why, realigning my spirit, and remembering that true creation requires stillness so we can sustainably carry one another home. TSOU has allowed me to do just that. As an artist, we always wanna have our hands to the plow but creativity also looks like conversations, curiosity, poetry, and planning. Though this year has been lighter than the last, it’s taught me that an artist is still an artist in all those things and especially in rest.

The Stories of Us partnered with the @DetroitPublicLibrary to install five Talking Drum sculptures where residents can scan a QR code on the drum to share lived experiences and build a living portrait of Detroit.

The Talking Drums will be located at five Detroit Public Library branches: Conely, Edison, Main Library, Redford, and Wilder.

Ashley Shaw-Scott Adjaye, Co-Founder and CEO of The Stories of Us, wrote a guest blog post speaking about the launch of their digital storytelling platform and how this will help Detroiters be seen through public art and shape a richer understanding of Detroit communities.

"As we grow, our ambition is to help civic institutions continuously learn from the people they serve, beginning where people live, gather, and belong — like public libraries. We also want to create an ongoing way for people to be heard beyond any single gathering." — Ashley Shaw-Scott Adjaye

The Stories of Us (@tsouorg) hosted an intimate mural workshop where artists got to learn from the one and only Dr. Hubert Massey. Artists got the opportunity to get a closer look at his creative process, tour his studio, and learn different techniques to help improve their artistry. 🎨🖌️

Some stories are written in ink.
Others are carried within us, shaped by where we come from, what we’ve endured, what we remember, and the courage to create.

On Saturday, August 29, I’ll have the honor of talking about art, culture, New Orleans, and what it means to create from a place that has shaped you while also helping shape the world around you.

I believe artists don’t simply make things. We remember. We preserve. We question. We imagine. We carry stories forward.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to share mine. Come sit with me. Let’s talk about the stories that make us who we are.

ICYMI: @fiestadelsolchicago brought visitors from across Chicago and the country together to celebrate the culture, traditions and community of Pilsen. ☀️🎉 This year’s theme, “We Are America! ¡Somos América!” highlighted how our city welcomes people from all backgrounds and creates opportunities for everyone to grow. Special thank you to Fiesta Del Sol Co-Chair Juana Medina!

1 week since the soft opening and we’re behind the scenes working out many things, so it’s always nice when articles drop like this that help amplify & clarify.

Goal: to inspire other “art nerds” and reflect possibilities 💙

recently completed a mural project with @tsouorg that I am SOOOOO PROUD of. its been months in the making. my piece was about the American Dream, the response stems from my own experience immigrating here from Taiwan as a 10 yo, but where I am is the continuation of the journey that my grandparents had embarked on. making their way from China through Myanmar through Taiwan for a chance to come to this country and make a better life for us 🇹🇼

i have very complicated and critical feelings about the American Dream. i have watched my own family and so many other immigrant families struggle and be actively targeted in this country, while also recognizing the privileges i have gained by being here. it is important to understand that both truths can coexist. i am grateful that i can share a part of my stories and the stories of my family and friends on this mural.

it had been an honor to work alongside other talented af Chicago artists (@sentrock @tosca_artwork @x.avior @pugsatomz) and be inspired by what they had created as well 🥰 other Chicago murals also at Douglass Park and at the @englewoodartscollective

my sculptures will be at Navy Pier through 9/24 along with 4 other talking drums. i hope you make it to see it IRL! scan the QR codes on each sculpture to see more of what the artists had tried to convey hehe
