Highlights from Cypress Creek High School volleyball season OH #12. I am so proud of this Varsity team and the opportunity I had of being a freshman starter as an outside. They all have helped improve my skills and I’m so proud of how well we did, ending the season with a 17-8 record.

AGTG 🙌🏾 I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my volleyball career at the University of Montevallo!

First, I’d like to thank God. Without Him, this wouldn’t have been possible. Through all the trials and tribulations of this journey, He gave me the strength to keep going and the patience to keep believing.

Next, I’d like to thank the amazing support system I am blessed with. To my agents (Mom and Dad), thank you for always believing in me and providing me with everything I needed to make this possible. Words can’t explain how grateful I am for you. To my grandparents, thank you for always finding a way to come see me play.

To my former coaches and clubs, thank you for developing me into the player I am today. To the @harrisonhoyavolleyball staff, thank you for giving this random kid from MO a chance. I’m so grateful to have coaches who truly see my talent and know how to help me reach my goals.

Can’t forget my roots: @pursuitvolleyballacademy and Jackson HS volleyball

Lastly, I’d like to thank @havenraeoquinn for giving me a chance and making me feel so wanted in your program, @montevallovolleyball.

This is only the first step… it’s not over yet.

Thank you, @itsbigtyme.photography for this amazing graphic!

⚡ FAST FEET DON’T AUTOMATICALLY MEAN A FAST ATHLETE.

What we’re training here goes deeper than just moving around a plate.

For a volleyball player, speed is rarely about running straight ahead for 30 yards. It’s about how quickly you can stop, change direction, reposition your body, and explode again.

That’s where this drill comes in.

When an athlete plants to change direction, the body has to absorb force first. Then the athlete has to redirect that force into the ground to accelerate in a new direction.

Think of it like a spring:

ABSORB ➜ LOAD ➜ PUSH ➜ EXPLODE

Done correctly, drills like this can help develop:

⚡ Deceleration — controlling your body when stopping
⚡ Lateral force production — pushing harder side-to-side
⚡ Change of direction — getting out of one movement and into another faster
⚡ Body control — staying balanced while moving at speed
⚡ First-step quickness — producing force quickly when it's time to GO

For volleyball players, that can show up when you're moving to dig a ball, recovering after a block, transitioning to attack, or chasing down a bad pass.

But here's the key:

The plate isn't making the athlete faster.

It's simply giving the athlete a target to move around. The real training happens when she learns to control her momentum, plant efficiently, put force into the ground, and accelerate out.

Once the athlete owns the movement, we make it harder by adding reaction and unpredictability—because in a game, nobody tells you exactly where the ball is going.

We don't train athletes just to look fast doing drills.

We train them to MOVE faster when it matters.
