Free & open to the public! #SpreadTheWord Dr. Love’s talk will discuss the struggles and the possibilities of committing ourselves to an abolitionist goal of educational freedom, as opposed to reform, and moving beyond what she calls the educational survival complex. Abolitionist Teaching is built on the creativity, imagination, boldness, ingenuity, and rebellious spirit and methods of abolitionists to demand and fight for an educational system where all students are thriving, not simply surviving. #abolition #abolitionist #educationforliberation #USFCASOE #usfca

#SpreadTheWord #HELLAPeoplesOnTheRun is this Saturday, March 10th at 10am! “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” –Audre Lorde
H.E.L.L.A. People’s On the Run is a grassroots organization collaboration between the Teachers 4 Social Justice and the People’s Education Movement to create opportunities for educators/organizers of color to heal collectively, network and build together. The acronym H.E.L.L.A. stands for Healing, Empowerment, Love, Liberation and Action, which are the guiding tenets of the H.E.L.L.A. Critical Affinity Group within T4SJ and People’s stands for the Bay Area chapter of the People’s Education Movement. Considering the structural barriers designed to keep people of color alienated, isolated and collectively disempowered within the realm of teaching and organizing [i.e. 83% of the teaching profession is White; Gentrification and the displacement of POC throughout the Bay Area, etc.] our hope is to build on our existing efforts of centering the needs, healing, strengths and individual/collective power of POC in our organizing spaces. *We usually meet every 2nd Saturday until May 2018 at the white pillars (pergola) allocated at the edge of #LakeMerritt in Oakland. At 10 am we will begin with stretching, affirmations and Assata Shakur’s chant. At 10:15 am folks will choose one of the following groups to join:
A ) Mindful Meditation/Yoga Squad *please bring a yoga mat

B ) Walking Squad

C ) Jogging Squad

D ) Running Squad
Please come wearing all black attire, bring water and revolutionary loving/healing energy to exchange with other educators and organizers of color!
