How Power Read Became Our Offensive Identity at Stevenson

Truth is; I wanted to be “one of the top offenses in California”...

We started with a simple problem: how do we build an explosive, efficient offense with the kids we actually have, not the ones we wish we had?

The starting point at Stevenson, our personnel reality was clear:
• Solid but not dominant offensive line
• A smart, tough quarterback.
• A dependable feature running back.
• No Spring Ball or Summer activities.

We needed a system that:
• Was simple enough for our kids to master.
• Featured our best players.
• Gave us answers versus multiple defensive looks.

That’s where Power Read came in.

Why Power Read?

Power Read gave us a way to marry physical football with spread spacing. The core idea was simple: run traditional Power up front, and let the quarterback read a key defender to decide whether the ball hits inside or bounces outside.

Clinic lens:
• The OL runs gap-scheme Power: down blocks, a puller, and a kick or wrap.
• The QB reads the playside end or apex defender.
• The back’s path is downhill; the perimeter threat comes from the QB or a motion player.

We stopped trying to out-scheme everyone and committed to doing one thing really well. Our kids knew: “We’re a Power Read team.” That clarity changed our mindset.

MAKING HISTORY FOR GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL ON THE CENTRAL COAST 🏈

Take a look back at the inaugural Banderas United Tour stop at Rabobank Stadium in Salinas on June 8, where more than 120 + girls came together for an unforgettable day of flag football, learning, and empowerment.

This recap video highlights the excitement, passion, and positive impact of an event that was about so much more than football.

It was about mentorship.
It was about leadership.
It was about opportunity.
It was about community.

Participants learned from experienced coaches, connected with inspiring role models, built confidence, and experienced firsthand how sports can create opportunities both on and off the field.

The Reggie Stephens Foundation was proud to support this historic event alongside Banderas United, Alisal High School, NORCAL Flag Football, and Starter, who generously sponsored the event t-shirts.

As girls flag football continues to open doors to college scholarships, leadership development, and personal growth, RSF remains committed to creating access and opportunities for young athletes throughout the Central Coast.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible and to the 120+ girls who showed up ready to learn, compete, and lead.

Watch the recap and help us celebrate the beginning of something truly special.

Big thank you to some of my Sunday Sessions athletes that came to coach and support. @sc.ellaporter @izzy_graff @elliemarta11 @xcitlali.mp3

Oregon Tour #TBT 🙏🏾😎 Season #9 complete

The main goal is to inspire these kids to believe in the biggest dreams they can muster because that’s what was created for me by Ron Powell, Greg Daniels sr, and Larry Walker.

They showed me outside the 831, and my hunger grew for the opportunity, and I made the most of it. I work tirelessly to see the kids that follow my footsteps end up better than me, and it all starts with dreaming big!

Salute to all my GBGB supporters and next year we do it even bigger!

I guarantee it ✈️ 🐉🏁

If I were Bishop Gorman, Mater Dei, Riordan or any big California school, I would be pursuing Aiden Rodriguez as soon as possible, but most likely he will stay home and go whenever his coach is at. His film shows that he has an outstanding work ethic, is extremely humble, and simply cannot be stopped. I'm sure we'll see many great things out of him as he continues to develop. I recommend that you see this player even if you are not a fan of Pop Warner football. Go follow him today @aiden_rodriguez_5 and dont say i didnt warn you.
