XL PLUNGER — Great Barrier Reef

How about this incredible action shot sent to us by Captain Simon Carosi aboard Dizzy! This beautiful big black marlin ate their XL Plunger and it looks like it put on a great show for them on leader. Nice work team Dizzy!

What can Hawaiian-style skirted lures bring to your marlin spread?

Nick Durham, founder of Tantrum Lures, walks us through their key features and why they deserve a place behind your boat.

Nick brings plenty of experience to the conversation, having led Team Tantrum to the 2025 Hawaii Marlin Tournament Series championship and earned InTheBite’s Hawaii Division Captain of the Year title.

We managed to pull him away from his busy schedule to talk all things marlin. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing snippets from our interview, packed with practical advice to help you catch more marlin this season.

Follow along and save this series for your next trip offshore.

Welcome back! The 7” jetted keel weighted Opelu “Trouble maker” is live at Barelalures.com. This custom built lure was designed by my father Chris, He has put this lure through years of trolling to perfect it to where it is today a very productive lure, and is one of my favorite, as his years of sculpting bronze artwork and capturing the realism of fish really shines thru onto this piece. Like all our jetted fish heads, we laminate them with a fiberglass coat for extra strength and durability for multiple strikes while keeping integrity and paint patterns. This batch of lures is coming skirted with @tts_tackle - Strobez. These are great lures that work year round on Ahi, Big Otaru(skipjack) Ono, Marlin, and Mahi-Mahi! We run these short corner for Ono an Mahi and long corners for Ahi/Marlin. Thank you all for the support as always as we continue to providing you with our best! 🤙🏽🤙🏽

Large Deep Six’s FOR SALE! Both skirted with 12” @tts_tackle STROBEZ @alohalureshawaii

Many people didn’t even realize Erik released a new size of his Deep Six Series. This is a great size between the classic 9” Deep Six and his now XL Deep six. Tons of action out of this bait, truly a new favorite bullet of mine.

Bait #1 Dark blue top with a white belly and Purple on the inside dovetail. Includes Aku (skip jack) stripes as well.

Got back from Sydney Sunday night and straight back in to fishing mode. October isn’t traditionally one of my favorite months for Kona fishing, but it hasn’t disappointed so far. We caught 11 blues in four days. Mainly smaller fish but we did see one nice one. Hit lures were the Large Bandit and XL Plunger ( no surprises there!), the JetPack and bullet got a couple of turns too. All armed with those sticky TTS 10/0s.

Long before Capt. Nick Durham called Kona home, he was fascinated by Hawaiian lures from halfway around the world.

That fascination would eventually inspire the creation of Tantrum Lures and the Large Bandit, one of Durham’s signature shapes.

This works better than a morning coffee! Fun one this morning on our Large JetPack. The JetPack has been red hot for us this past couple of weeks. I like it best skirted in our STROBEZ and rigged with our 10/0. We run it on the short rigger in a four lure spread and the long rigger in a five lure spread — do try it!

RIP to this Large Bandit! Finally experienced my first Kona water pressure break off. Drag just above free spool and still couldn’t survive it. Lots of great memories with this lure with plenty of tournament money won and it’s been in the mouth of more than one giant. Photographed is one of the more memorable animals that ate this particular lure. Excited to pour a new one and see what eats that.

Do yourselves a favor and put one on your short rigger or long corner, epic things will happen!

Available in head only or skirted through our website or one of our great dealers.
