This book feels like I’ve finally reached the end of a thought I’ve been working through for nearly five years.

Since leaving Virginia, I’ve felt incredibly lost, but not directionless. Leaving home changed the way I saw the world, and I think I began projecting a lot of my own desires onto the things I photographed. Belonging, warmth, love. Things I was trying to find for myself, but that always seemed to exist alongside vacancy, loneliness, and uncertainty.

I’ve always been drawn to the idea that you can recognize the presence of something through its absence. A place can feel lonely and still hold evidence of intimacy. Something broken can retain a kind of tenderness. Making this book hasn’t given me any great answers. If anything, it’s helped me become more comfortable with not knowing. Even when I feel lost, I’m still paying attention, still finding things worth caring about. And maybe, for now, that’s enough.

I’m happy to finally share Trace of Warmth with you. It’s available for purchase now. Thank you to everyone who’s supported the work and found something of their own in these photographs.

Huge thank you to everybody that came out. An even bigger thank you to @hanksamericana for having me, @benjamincoryell for letting me borrow his turntables for the evening, and @tuckerewing_ for some live recording.

Principal Photography has wrapped on my first ever short film, WHAT I’D GIVE YOU !!! I am filled with so much gratitude, pride, and exhaustion. When I started writing this script; I had no idea that it would lead me to my first film set, as a first time film director, surrounded by some of the most talented, patient, and kindhearted people in the biz. I think we’ve got something really special on our hands, and I can’t wait for y’all to see it.
