My Scottish Sampler. I am stitching a sampler to commemorate my Scottish ancestors who immigrated to America. Both of my parents surnames are Scottish. My father’s side were Quakers so I’ve added half Quaker medallions as the bottom border. The basic structure is based on the top half of North Carolina Sampler by Theresa Baird. ( photo 2) The left side ocean scene represents the journey by ship. The right side will have a farm scene from Voice of the Shepherd by Told in the Garden. You can see this being stitched by Joanne, The Story Stitcher. (photo 3) The farm represents both of my parent’s families who were farmers. The children are my mother and father who both grew up on farms in Ohio. I reckon I’m halfway done.

O Sweet Humility Eliza Townsend’s Work by Cross Stitch Antiques. My version finally done. I changed many things but used the main format. I chose all the dmc colors. Photo #2 has the other patterns I used. The fabric is 18 count aida Affogatto. The frame is from Hobby Lobby.
I was especially drawn to this because the house reminds me of the ruins in Barnsley Gardens in Adairsville, Georgia. (Photo #3) It was an antebellum home that survived the Civil War but later was struck by lightning and burned. It is now a resort with a golf course.

Progress on O Sweet Humility by Cross Stitch Antiques. My version is drastically different than the original. (photo 3) I prefer brighter colors. All the aninals in the grass are changed except for the duck pond. My favorite is the funky spotted cow. (photo 2) This is my focus piece.

My Scottish Sampler based on North Carolina Sampler by Theresa Baird. I’m using elements of the sampler and condensing the top border. That giant 4” thistle is what got me. I’m stitching the sampler to acknowledge the Scottish heritage on both parents’ sides.
