Congrats 💫 to @carracci_art + @clarence_h_j on the debut of Whirlwind, a group exhibition featuring artists Armando Alleyne, Mary Blakemore, Natalia Benet, Michael A. Cummings, Jonathan DeDecker, Itzel Alejandra Martinez, Eric Santoscoy-Mckillip, Edward Salas, Texas Red, and Cristina Tufiño. Whirlwind draws inspiration from Robert Farris Thompson’s description of the Yoruba Egungun tradition, where “the abstraction of a person in circling, swirling cloth conjures the image of the whirlwind.” Michael A. Cummings’ 2021 quilt Egungun B is showcased for the first time. Catch the exhibit from now until 4/25 at NextWave Gallery 📍 37 North 15th Street # 104. PS A2LO4 had the pleasure of interviewing Clarence last year. Get to know more about him and his craft via link in bio 🌀 #artist2lookout4 #nycgallery #art #thingstodo

Carracci Art and NextWave Gallery are excited to announce 𝙒𝙝𝙞𝙧𝙡𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙙, a group exhibition drawing inspiration from Robert Farris Thompson’s description of the Yoruba Egungun masquerade tradition, where “the abstraction of a person in circling, swirling cloth conjures the image of the whirlwind.” 🌬️🍃🌀 The whirlwind is a point of departure, a syncretic metaphor for an experience of art which begins with the aesthetic experience of color, pattern, and form, and is transformed into a metaphysical dance of reverence and emotion ✨ 🟥 🪩 Featuring: Armando Alleyne @alleyne.armando Natalia Benet @benatnico Mary Blakemore @_______bluecrush Michael A.
