He saw tufting on TikTok. Then he decided to try it himself.

He ordered the equipment, built a frame, and started learning.

Three years later, Motion is the creator behind Tuft Customz, turning ideas into one-of-a-kind fabric art and building something of his own right here in New Mexico.

For the newest High Desert Makers, I’m sharing the story behind the work — where Motion started, what he learned along the way, the challenges he faced, and what success really means to him.

Not just what people make, but why they keep making it.

He saw someone tufting on TikTok and thought, “I could do that.”

So he ordered the equipment, built a frame, and started learning.

Three years later, Motion is the creator behind Tuft Customz, turning ideas into one-of-a-kind fabric art right here in New Mexico.

For the newest edition of High Desert Makers, I sat down with Motion to learn about where it all started, teaching himself the craft, rebuilding his business after returning to New Mexico, the moments that made him question whether to keep going, and what success really means to him.

And his answer to that last question might be my favorite part of the entire story.

This is why I created High Desert Makers.

Not just to show what people make, but to introduce you to the people behind it — the New Mexicans taking chances, learning as they go, and building something of their own.

Real stories. Real people. Real community.

Everyone sees the finished rugs…
but nobody really sees the beginning.

So here’s mine.
Day 1 of my tufting journey.
No experience, just faith, consistency, and a dream.

I’ll be showing the good days, bad days, mistakes, progress — everything.

If you’re here this early, welcome ❤️#fyyp #rugmakingprocess #tuftinggun
