What if the way something is made becomes the way we understand it? Filmmaker @tekurudewes introduces @tukangatoi, a new series that looks beyond finished works to the processes and stories that shape Māori creativity. What a wild year. Produced and directed my first series @tukangatoi for Whakaata Māori. Absolutely faced some challenges but we got there👆🏽Tīhei mauriora Big mihi to the artists for sharing your kōrero, time, patience, kāenga, studios, manaakitanga and mātauranga. Ko ngā kōrero rā ka ora tonu hei taonga mō ngā whakatipuranga 🧬 Nothing but thanks and gratitude to the core crew Seb, Julie, Huhana, Nikau, Hēmi, Gareth and the many hands that helped bring the vision of Tukanga to life. Nā rau ringa i oti ai 🪡 All eps are on the Māori+ website and app if you haven’t had the chance to watch them yet, can stream it these hols easy peasy 🍋🤏🏽 The next project for Mātahi Media is a reo Māori music album called Kurawai, looking forward to delivering that kaupapa for the people. Earlier this year @tekurudewes asked if I’d shoot an episode of his new doco series TUKANGA, about the processes of art making by ringatoi Māori. How special to travel to Hawai’i with Te Kuru and @nikaugabrielle and film with the beautiful @honebailey 🌿 All eps of @tukangatoi are out now on MĀORI+ and all other eps were filmed by the wonderful @sebcharles whose work I love so much.

True to his passion Tukanga is 100% reo Māori and through this show we (the artists) were given the opportunity to express our Toi Māori practices in our Native Tongue. Big mihi to all the artists involved. Such an incredible kāhui!
