Do you still dress up for Halloween? If so, what are you going to be this year?
I generally don’t dress up much and I won’t do anything this year costume-wise, but my son is going trick or treating as Bumblebee (the Transformer!) and it should be a fun Saturday night with friends and family!

The Final Second is a gripping and flawlessly executed mystery/thriller. It kept me guessing and totally surprised me.

BOOK REVIEW
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
The Final Second is book two in The Mindhunter Series. I hadn’t read the first in the series and while The Final Second can certainly be read and enjoyed as a standalone, I do feel like I missed some significant backstory. Cassidy is a solid protagonist and much about her past and the events in LA (subject of the first book) are referenced and some individuals even come back.

There are a lot of characters to keep track of—police, investigators, victims, suspects, news reporters, hospital staff, experts, etc. It was easy to get lost in the nuance and I definitely overlooked some potential clues.

Grin was a unique and brutal serial killer. While not gory per se, this novel is not for the weak of heart with murders, abductions, and bloody smiles gracing every chapter.

For a fairly long novel, this is a quick read with relatively short chapters, alternating narrators, and red herrings throughout. Thank you to The Pulse for putting this one on my radar. It’s the perfect thriller for spooky season and it’s available now!

Christmas in Paradise Springs is in full swing—even if it’s shaping up to be a quieter one for Elmo Simpson. Until a little girl asks Santa for the impossible.

A Killer Day in Paradise by J.C. Kenney

Wild animal removal specialist Elmo Simpson is spending the holidays playing Santa at the community park—and his girlfriend is about to head out of town to visit family, leaving him to a quieter-than-planned Christmas.

Then a child makes one simple wish: bring her father home for Christmas.

The problem? Her father is in hiding—accused of murdering a shady investment banker with a long list of enemies.

Elmo trades his Santa hat for his investigator instincts and dives into a case tangled with small-town secrets, financial schemes, and suspects who all had a reason to want the victim gone. Some wanted revenge. Others wanted silence. One of them is a killer.

Elmo’s got a plan…sort of. But with Christmas fast approaching and a promise he can’t break, he has one shot to uncover the truth, clear an innocent man—and catch a killer before Christmas morning comes with the wrong kind of surprise.

A snippet:

“Come closer.” I waved them over. “What can Santa do for you, today?”

The girls exchanged a look. Then big sister took little sister in her hand.

“You sure you want to do this?” the older one asked.

“Uh huh.” The younger looked her sister in the eye. “I came this far, didn’t I?”

“Okay, but don’t expect much. You know how grown-ups can be.”

Available at your favorite retailer online including Amazon and Kobo.

Colt has been running from his past for his adult life. He keeps ruminating on his mistakes instead of what he has done right.
The wrong thing he did was leave town without bothering to contact Josie again.
When he comes home he discovers he’s a father times two.
It took a very long time for Colt to see the light, almost to the point of exasperation.
Josie was much more forgiving but had a right to be leery of him.
My favorite character was Gran and her retirement home remuda. The scene where they barrage Colt with a bunch of questions was hilarious.
I also thought Colt deserved Mark’s reaction after learning the truth about the boys.
Thanks @tulepublishing @melcurtisauthor for the advance copy.

A BIG THANK YOU to @jimdelavega & @thrillerbookloversthepulse for the ARC of his second installment in the Mind Hunter Series. I was super excited to see what happens next for Cassie at the end of the first book it left you with a cliffhanger. The first book was a dark and twisty crime procedural with a serial killer blowing people up this one was even darker.

This book picks up with an execution of the wrong man and a gift from the real killer taunting the police they executed the wrong man. From then on it was a intense, dark, on the edge of your seat twists that I could not put it down. I loved Cassie and was glad to see more of her story. Definitely a must read for those who love police procedurals and cat and mouse tropes.

Sounds crazy right?! This one can also be read stand alone if you did not read the first one.
Did you read the first one? ‼️ check your trigger warnings may be too much for some.

The Final Second
The Mind Hunter Series Book 2

After the execution of the Blood Smile Killer, a package arrives that throws everything into question. Did they execute the wrong man, or is the real killer still out there? What follows is a wild game of cat and mouse packed with twists, a compelling investigation, and enough suspense to make you question every theory you come up with. Just when you think you’ve figured it out, think again.

The Final Second reads like an episode of Criminal Minds, and if the plot wants to go completely off the rails, buckle up because I am HERE for it. The characters from book one get more room to develop, becoming familiar faces you feel like you’ve been watching on TV for seasons. This is the kind of book you inhale at the beginning and remember to breathe later. Much later. You don’t have to read book one first, but honestly, why deprive yourself? It’s that good. Highly recommended for fans of crime fiction, police procedurals, and thrillers that refuse to play nice.
