✨ Always learning, always growing, always striving to be better for the little ones I serve. 🤍

This month, I had the opportunity to complete additional continuing education courses and earn new certifications to continue expanding my knowledge and skills as a pediatric occupational therapist.

Working with babies is such a privilege, and it’s one I never take lightly. Every baby is unique, every family has their own story, and there is always more to learn about how I can best support them.

I believe being a great therapist means never stopping learning. It means continuing to ask questions, seeking out new knowledge, and looking at the whole baby to better understand their needs.

These little ones deserve thoughtful, individualized care, and their families deserve a therapist who is continually growing, learning, and showing up ready to give them the very best. 🫶🏼

I’m so grateful to do this work and to be trusted by so many families during such an important season of life.

Because helping babies eat, move, and thrive starts with never stopping learning. ☀️❤️✨

✨ Meet your newest TummyTime! Method Certified Therapist! ✨

Milk Stories is excited to add another evidence-based tool to better support babies and their families.

I recently completed certification in the TummyTime! Method, developed by pediatric occupational therapist Michelle Emmanuel. This approach goes beyond simply placing babies on their tummy. It teaches parents how to make tummy time enjoyable, developmentally appropriate, and effective from the very beginning.

The TummyTime! Method uses playful, individualized strategies to build strength, promote motor development, support feeding and sensory regulation, help prevent positional head flattening, and foster confidence for both babies and caregivers.

✨ Check out my listing on the official TummyTime! Method Certified Therapists Directory, or visit the website to find a certified therapist in your area:

Stop stressing about the timer.

One of the most common things I hear from parents is:

“My pediatrician said my baby needs 20 minutes of tummy time every day, but they hate it.”

Here’s the thing:

Tummy time isn’t about checking off a number.

It’s about providing opportunities for your baby to:
• Strengthen their neck and trunk
• Shift weight through their arms
• Explore their environment
• Develop the skills needed for rolling, reaching, crawling, and feeding

A few minutes of engaged, successful tummy time is often more beneficial than a long session spent crying.

Focus on quality movement experiences, not just the clock.

If your baby is struggling with tummy time, always looking to one side, or showing signs of developmental or feeding challenges, an OT evaluation can help identify the root cause and provide strategies to support their success.

Not every pediatric PT is confident treating infants. 🤔
There is nuance in infant treatment that requires additional education and experience for success. Babies aren’t just tiny adults, they are their own unique beings with systems that are so closely connected. To better understand your amazing babies👶🏽❤️, I have invested my energy, heart, hours, and hard-earned dollars into multiple infant-specialty trainings. Since opening Playful Progress, I have spent over 250 hours learning from the ✨best of the best✨ in the baby therapy world, diving deep into tongue ties, torticollis, tummy time, and how everything is truly connected.

The more I learn, the more I want to know. 🤓

Have questions about these trainings and mentorships? I’m happy to answer them!

At just one month old, this is truly incredible. She’s demonstrating beautiful thoracic extension—lifting through her chest, opening up her upper body, and building the exact strength and stability we want to see at this stage of development.

Thoracic extension is so important for babies. It lays the foundation for head control, rolling, reaching, and eventually crawling. When a baby can activate through this area, it means they’re starting to develop the postural strength and coordination needed for all future milestones.

Before her treatment, she really struggled with tummy time and wasn’t able to hold this position. And then immediately after… this was her result.

Mom even texted me shortly after with an update—make sure you watch until the end of the video to see what she said!

Tummy time is like physical therapy for babies.

We recommend about 30 minutes of monitored tummy time per day, broken up throughout the day rather than all at once. And good news for parents—baby laying on your chest counts as tummy time too (hello contact naps).

Tummy time helps babies begin to open through their thoracic spine after spending months curled up in utero. As they gradually extend and move against gravity, it supports the development of important neck, shoulder, and upper back muscles. These muscles are essential for milestones like lifting the head, rolling, sitting, and eventually crawling.

It also plays an important role in strengthening the muscles involved in swallowing and early feeding, while helping babies develop better head control and postural stability.

Start with short periods and build gradually. Follow your baby’s cues, keep it playful, and remember that small moments throughout the day add up.

If your toddler wants the same book every day, let them. Repetition builds language, confidence, and connection. This is exactly how God designed young minds to learn. #PreReading #EarlyLiteracy #toddlerlife #toddlermom #infantmom #toddlermomreads #Faithandmotherhood #motherhoodandfaith
