Pants on Fire v8, FA - The Boulderfields, Kelowna
•
Had a fun sesh with @handsoffmyjugs on the weekend and was able to make my first contribution to the fields. Start under the roof on the left and follow the flake feature to climb into Smokanagan.

As for the grade I think it’s v8ish it could be easier or harder I don’t really know I’d be curious for some feedback.

Diamond Grit v13 First Ascent

this line climbs through the crux of iron resolution but breaks right to follow the rail feature to the most exposed part of the boulder. the top section has great holds but a lack of feet. it’s in a totally different style than the traditional exit- the moves are thuggy, relying on a smear heel and locking down. while the top section is much easier than the crux (maybe around v7-8) it felt like a step up physically from the usual topout for iron res, and much more committing.

since the first time i saw the iron resolution boulder, my eyes followed the rail feature from the start hold to the most exposed peak of the wall. i figured that someone had already found that the holds along the rail were too choss, or the fall was too dangerous, and put it out of my mind.

but after ascending iron res, i couldn’t stop thinking about the possibility. hopping on a rope, i was shocked to find that the holds were comfortable and even juggy in comparison to the crux holds down low.

i had a lot of nerves when i started giving send rips. felt like a dream to climb through the crux despite them and trust my preparation through the top sequence.

on the grade, i could see it ending up just a small step up from iron res. since i gave iron res 13, i’ll stick with that grade here. i still think its a strange boulder to put a number to because its so few moves through the crux, and they feel literally impossible without good conditions 😭 if iron res ends up being consensus 12, this would most likely see the dg too. either way on the grade, it’s probably the best line ive ever climbed and one of the best stone feelings ive encountered 🫶

and for the name, i kept thinking about the circumstances @chris_sharma got the iron res FA, and how the name was inspired by the unique iron coating on the rock. coming back, i was reminded how gritty the rock is, but also HARD unlike the other rock in jtree. and anyways, this boulder is a 💎!
