A rare photo of the three of us! Scenes from our Christmas in Connecticut and Pine Plains. The Feast of the Seven Fishes one day, a fondue the next, with lunch and a walk between. A very beautiful way to celebrate with Hugo. ❤️ to @hoodvictoriaa @theo_coulombe @turnerdouglas @laurenbrinkers @stephansagmiller @kshiroka @scot.p.samuelson.architect

An unexpected detour about 2 weeks ago. We were directed to @standard_space gallery in Sharon, CT to see the current show, “HYDROGLYPHS: A Symbolic Language” paintings by Melinda Hackett. Curated by the lovely @turnerdouglas The language of symbols, color and vision harmonize in each painting. They’re beautiful abstractions with dream-like notes. They pull you and the viewer retains their groundedness and, maybe, just maybe, is offered a tad more inner calm than when they entered the gallery. @theo_coulombe is the Founder and Curator at @standard_space. Don’t miss the opportunity to chat with him. He’s rich with experiences of NYC, art, photography and cooking. Thank you for a great visit @theo_coulombe and @turnerdouglas !!

IN THE STUDIO WITH MELINDA HACKETT An artist's intent to inspire viewers to find beauty in abstraction and to embrace the dreamlike quality of art that transcends time and space. @standard_space gallery’s latest exhibition, HYDROGLYPHS: A Symbolic Language, by artist @hacko50 and curated by @turnerdouglas is a reflection of an ongoing dialogue with art history and the rich tapestry of influences that shape a creative vision. Drawing inspiration from movements such as Abstract Expressionism and Color Field painting, there is a sense of spontaneity and freedom in the work. The overlapping, transparent circles and intricate patterns, for example, resonate with notions of interconnectedness found in both nature and cellular biology, further inviting viewers to let their imagination wander between the microscopic and the celestial. Additionally, the use of vibrant hues and earthy tones pays homage to a multitude of cultural artistic traditions that celebrate color as a language of emotion—echoing the bold palettes of Van Gogh and the expressive brushwork of the Fauvists. HYDROGLYPHS therefore engages in a continuous conversation with art history, not only as a past influence, but as an active participant in a vibrant present. It’s been horrific. And shameful, the genocide continues despite worldwide pressure. We must remain steadfast. This post will be the first of a few gratitude posts about the Gaza Quilt, working with @hitaw_now , Hind’s House and more but I start here with my role raising funds for Gaza with art. When I met Mo’min, he taught me what mutual aid is all about, he got me excited about his passion for small business. I leaned in to try new things to raise money for his family in Gaza. It started with prints from the Gaza quilt and then we created HopeWorld Tees where we added Gaza quilt imagery to t-shirts, hoodies and streetwear, thanks to @readysetgol for leading the way. I created an Etsy site and sold from there mostly at first, and started wearing the tees wherever I went, brought them to protests. My friends in the movement were gracious to model for me. @aya.nadarr my first model said bring all the shirts I will model them all! She got me started, so grateful for her support and to @manatsu.tanaka @rhythmloverevolution @ridikkuluz for sharing their light with me and inhabiting the tees. I was invited to bring the shirts to a Palestinian Film Festival and sold them out that night. It felt meaningful sharing stories about things I learned from Mo’min, the way we unfurled the quilt at the Met and building relationships with new friends in the movement. And I could keep raising funds, it was more personal. I then had the opportunity to be a part of Hinds House 1 & 2, and share the quilt and sell shirts there too. It connects us, these shirts, we wear them to protests and events, to work and to workout and it spreads the message. @maydayspace was my first time vending at a social justice sale, alongside neighbors. More to come in 2025, more plans more expansive ideas to bring together art, activism and fundraising. End pic is the amount raised this year for Mo’min’s family in Norwegian Krone. You do the math.. we did that together! Mo’min and I thank you all. Keep fighting, never silent, FREE PALESTINE! Links in bio for #hopeworldtees on Etsy & Zahar family GFM. Every act of hate countered by acts of love and resistance! #stopgenocideingaza
